CSU to UC transfers?

Anyone here manage to transfer from CSU to UC? If so how did you find out which CSU courses were UC transferable?

I didn’t do this myself, but I know of a few people on this board whose names I unfortunately can’t remember who did transfer from CSU to UC, so it can be done.

With regards to which CSU courses are transferable…I wouldn’t know. You’ll want to contact the articulation officers of the UC to which you wish to transfer about the transferability of CSU courses; they’ll know which ones transfer and which ones don’t.

Is there anything preventing you from withdrawing from the CSU and entering a CCC?

I agree with @Calbro CCC students get priority consideration when transferring. It will be much easier if you go to a CC.

I once met a student that got accepted to UCLA from CalState LA… so it is possible but really rare.

I’m already enrolled in CSULB for fall this year, I’m planning on staying for at least 2 years then transferring to UCSC, it’s a low tier UC so it won’t be as insane as attempting to transfer to Berkeley or UCLA. The reason I want to transfer is because UCSC has robotics engineering which is the only UC with it as far as I know.

I know I could still go to a CCC but I’ve been told I should stay at CSULB since it has a great engineering program. Also, personally I want to experience more of the university lifestyle so that’s another reason why I’m choosing CSULB.

Hi. I’m transferring to UCLA from SDSU. There’s no easy way of knowing for sure which courses transfer - you’ll hear “we won’t know for sure until your official transcripts are here” or “you’ll find out during orientation” a ton. You can, however, get in touch with each individual department (i.e. talk to the Physics department about a Physics course you took at the CSU) and ask them if they have any official information on course articulation. I’ve gotten lucky for a couple of my classes this way. I am also currently waiting on a petition I have out for the LS series. **All of the information I’ve garnered isn’t 100% and is subject to change… Which kinda sucks but it’s nice to have some sort of idea.

So yeah, finding out which courses articulate for CSU transfers is a headache. It isn’t as simple as going on assist.org and selecting two of the schools you want to compare.

My stats for your future reference: 3.85 GPA, good personal statements, sub-par EC’s tbh. I got into UCSD and UCLA. It’s possible. I’d personally tell you to stay at CSULB and apply from there… It’s definitely more rare to get into a UC, but you still would’ve progressed in a pretty reputable school. I’d imagine being rejected from a UC while at a CC to be the worst possible situation.

@sdsucsd - that is great info. I’m having the same issues, so it’s nice to know there may be workarounds.

@2016Candles Yeah, I hear you’re from a CSU too. I can empathize with you in regards to how much it sucks to be uncertain about class transferability. But, look at this:

https://www.lscore.ucla.edu/new/news/syllabi/Spring%202012ARTICULATION_LIST_CURRENT.pdf

This was my saving grace when I was still choosing between UCSD and UCLA and all it took me was a few sent e-mails. Documents like this may or may not exist for your major, so don’t be afraid to try! Good luck in deciding between staying at your CSU and transferring to UCLA. I really feel for you.

Thanks @SDSUCSD‌ ! Hopefully this will help me come to a decision sooner.

Hey thanks for all the info and congratulations on getting into UCLA. It sounds like it’s gonna be a pain to figure everything out but I think it’s gonna be worth staying at my CSU. I think I’m gonna have trouble on that personal statement though, I’m not a great writer. Anyways, thanks for the info, I’m gonna check out that link you put since I also plan on applying to UCLA.

yeah I would either stay at CSU or transfer to a CC and then apply to whatever UCs you wish to go to. CSU to UC is possible, but going to a CC greatly increases your chances and it’s cheaper

I’m a CSU to CC to UC transfer! I went from CSUF to Rio Hondo College and will be attending UCSD this fall! My suggestion is to get out of CSU as fast as possible. The more units you take at a CSU might hinder your opportunity to get accepted to a UC.

CSU Stan to UCSD! Just offer that campus something that non of the students they have can bring to the table (my community leadership and social activism is what got me though I’m sure)
