I currently attend high school in Missouri and I am fairly confident that my stats will allow me to get into the schools I am viewing but the costs of many of these schools are unbelievable
I will not qualify for any need based aid and I am currently looking at Cal Poly SLO and UCSC for environmental science
Throughout my research I have not found anything that would lower the costs for OOS students for either. Any suggestions on how to lower these costs or what I should make my decisions based on?

or what I should make my decisions based on?

Make your decision based on what your parents will pay. What other choice do you have?
What are your parents saying??
Do these schools offer merit scholarships? What are your academic stats?
@mommaknowsbest some offer merit scholarships, the CSU colleges seem to be cheaper, but the scholarships are max 1000$ which barely seem to put a dent in the prices. I’m not sure how many loans I would be willing to take on.
I have:
3.87 UW
4.12 W
29 ACT
Taking the SAT in next week
Tons of extracurriculars: varsity athletics, drama/theatre, student government, marketing club, business club, 3+ year lifeguard/assistant manager
@mom2collegekids I don’t want my decisions to be based solely off of $$$, my other choice is loans. My parents want me to go the schools I want to go to, but they are pushing to choose a cheap school because they do not want me to have loans. They will not make clear what their contribution will be, but I do not qualify for any type of need based aid whatsoever
There are no scholarships for OOS students for the California public schools since those schools are funded by California state residents.
Expect $36K per year at the CSU’s with no financial aid and minimum merit aid since California has so many in-state qualified applicants with higher scores. (ACTs at 34-36)
The maximum amount in loans that you can borrow is $27K for 4 years. The rest will be up to your parents. UCSC will cost around $55K/year. Your stats are good but not high enough for regents at UCSC which is only a drop in the bucket towards the costs.

Well, $$$ will be a BIG part of it whether you like it or not
YOU can’t borrow much.
These are the amounts that YOU can borrow…
5,500 frosh year
6,500 soph year
7,500 jr year
7,500 sr year
so, can you see now that $$$ will influence the decision? Money doesn’t just fall out of the sky.
