Sac State is my Alma Mater - Go Hornets!

You are well above average and in their local admission area, assuming you completed the a-g requirements, you are virtually guaranteed a slot.

Good luck.

Yes I have only taken 3 non a-g courses and taken 21 a-g courses

How was the environment at sac state?

Even though I am applying to engineering do you think I am virtually guaranteed a spot?

@Ncalrent

Yes - even in engineering.

Sac State is a big commuter school. There are some dorms on and near campus and there’s a concentration of students in the area, particularly in the close apartment complexes on University and La Riviera. Most students drive to campus and parking can be a PITA. The quality of the courses is very good and there are lots of opportunities to get involved in clubs, frats, sororities, etc. I’ve seen Engineering students compete in robotics, and the typical Engineering Challenges. Most of the facilities on campus are nice, the gym is awesome. Plenty of venues for live performances and there’s a lot to do in the immediate area. The school was built over the course of many years so, it doesn’t really have a cohesive architecture - but it works.

Any specific questions?

Would you go back to this school if you could?

Are students at sac motivated to succeed?

When did you attend this school?

Is the school and surrounding areas clean and safe?

I graduated in the late 1980s - then got an MBA @ Sac in the early/mid 90s so, a LONG time ago. I liked it enough to go back for a master’s and raise my family in the Sacramento area. As it happens, i was on-campus last weekend for a Jazz Festival my younger son played in. I find myself there once or twice a year for one reason or another. I also own a rental house in the area that’s currently occupied by Sac State students so, i am still quite familiar with the school and its surrounds.

The area close to campus is safe and clean enough. A few miles North, East or South, less so but, safe student housing is plentiful along the American River and elsewhere.

Would i go back is an interesting question. I’ve got a great education, a solid career and have have many wonderful memories and lasting relationships that began there. I met my (now) wife on-campus so, the school holds a special place in my heart.

That said, my older son is a sophomore at Chico State. Sac is our local school and he wanted to leave the area and attend a residential school. If it were me, i’d likely had made the same choice. Chico has been great for him. The school is much smaller than Sac and much more residential and has a better connection to the city of Chico. He is fortunate we could afford to have him live on-campus.as a freshman and very near it the other years he’s there. If we didn’t have the budget for him to be away, I wouldn’t have hesitated to send him to Sac.

The motivation of students - I’ve got a pretty limited view. My son has a few high school friends that attend. (one is CS major, the others, i don’t know) Other than parking (which has been a problem for 30+ years) they seem to like it. Like i said, i do go to campus from time to time. Last Saturday, there was no shortage of studying going on. I don’t think you’d need to look very hard to find motivated students, especially in the engineering disciplines.

At all universities, you’ll find some students that slack off - especially freshman year - that sorts itself out over time.

When I toured the college back in October and the tour guide told me that Sac State has had a 100% of there engineering students obtain jobs in there field last year. So you could say they have a superb genie writ program and close ties with some majors companies.
