CSU

I have a 3.56 UW UC Gpa and I have one D which I did not makeup and unfortunately can not make up. I have a 25 ACt score, what are my chances? Thanks for any help!

@hixx123 do you have any CSUs in mind? Do you have a UC/CSU GPA for us?

yes, it is 3.56 UW @michelle426

Csu fullerton or Cal Poly Pomona.

@hixx123 do you have a capped weighted one? My UW UC GPA is 3.59 (a lot of Bs, but not far off from yours) but my cap weight is 3.95 and my full weight is 4.14. Your cap weight is your “true” CSU GPA.

so sorry, but what is cap weight? Weighted GPA? @michelle426

@hixx123 This site has better calc:http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Post your 10-11th grades if you unable to figure out how to calculate your UC GPA.

I have calculated it and it is 3.56, Do you guys know if CSu’s accept d’s or do they have the same policy as UCs about the c or better

CSU’s still require that you pass all your a-g courses with a C or better, however, they have a lower requirement for the # of years of Math required from 3-4 for the UC’s versus 2 years minimum for the CSU’s.

This is from the CSU mentor website regarding not passing an a-g course:
If you earned D grades in some of them, you have several options to make up these courses and qualify for CSU admission. You can complete appropriate high school courses with a grade of C or better either in summer school or in adult school. Courses in this category must be those found on the high school or adult school UC “a-g” course lists. Some adult schools may not have a-g course lists.

You may also complete college courses with a grade of C or better in the missing subject areas. Finally, you can earn an acceptable score on examinations such as the SAT subject examinations, Advanced Placement examinations, or International Baccalaureate examinations.

If you are unable or do not choose to make up your subject deficiency, you may earn at least 60 units, including 30 semester units of general education from a California Community College or other college and transfer as an upper-division transfer student, where only your college performance is considered for admission

@hixx123: Sorry, you need 3 years Math for the CSU’s (Algebra/Geometry/Algebra 2) which I assume you have fulfilled since you were taking Pre-Calc. I think you should be OK for most of the CSU’s except for the highly selective campuses of Cal Poly SLO, SDSU and CSULB. You can still retake the Honors Pre-Calc class for your Senior year to replace the D.

@Gumbymom thanks for all the help! So Since Im taking Pre Calc Honors and got a D do you think Csus will he more lenient?

@hixx123 I don’t think any school will be “lenient” about a D, honors, AP, or regular.

For the CSU’s you meet the minimum required Math classes by passing all of them up to the 1st semester of Honors Pre-Calc. Unfortunately, the minimum will not make you a competitive applicant for many of the impacted CSU’s and their majors. Your CSU GPA will take a hit with the D, but you have more options for grade validation with the CSU’s. You can either retake the class or take a higher level of Math such as regular calculus to validate the lower Pre-Calc. Neither an ideal situation but I would retake Honors Pre-Calc senior year and get some tutoring so you can get a passing grade. Depending upon which major you plan to study in college, Calculus may be a major requirement so having a good foundation will help.

The CSU’s are all about the numbers which translates into the eligibility index (EI).

(CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10).

SJSU is the only CSU that publishes their EI for each major but it gives an idea of the numbers you need to achieve for that level of a CSU.
