CSUF Engineering Program

Does anyone one here know anything about CSUF's engineering program? I know it's not high ranked, but I'd like to know if anyone on here is an engineering major there or knows someone that is that has good things to say about it, etc.

I am currently a Mechanical Engineering senior at CSUF and I must say I really enjoyed the program here. Since the Engineering program at CSUF is not a large one, you get more one on one time with professors which really helps in the learning process. I am also a former president of the Engineering Honor Society Tau Beta Pi and in doing so I got to work with many of the other students in the Engineering and Computer Science College. In my work with TBP I have been able to get an idea of what it is like in other engineering departments as well. Most of the students I have spoken to have the same opinion of the program here.

We have a fully functional CNC machine shop as well as current software programs in the labs and classrooms so the students can stay current and be marketable in the job market. One of the fellow members of TBP went to Texas A&M and she likes this campus much better because our labs are more “hands on.” Since we are a smaller campus the labs are performed by students and they can actually learn by doing rather than just from books.

Being a Mechanical Engineering major I can’t speak too much about the Civil, Electrical and Computer Engineering programs but I do encourage you to come check out the campus and see what you think for yourself. If you contact the Engineering Department you can find out more info on the tours that are being given or just request to come by and check it out. Mention Tau Beta Pi and I or one of our fellow officers could be the one to escort you.

Thanks so much! I just got accepted into electrical engineering (transfer student) and havn’t been able to find out a whole lot about the program. I like the whole “learn by doing” thing like the Cal Polys, so that is definitely a plus. My first choice was Cal Poly Pomona, but if I get waitlisted there, I think I would rather pursue other options than deal with the whole wait list thing. I’ll probably contact them in a few weeks and stop by. Thanks
