NO WAY! I’m from San Jose too! I’m going on July 2nd. The date selections are different with different majors. I’m majoring in communications right now but I want to switch to business. And no, I’m not going to part 2. Are you a boy or a girl? (I’m trying to line up roommates if the dorm situation doesn’t fall through)

Whoaaaa! If you don’t mind me asking, what school do you go to? I’m still unsure of what date I’m going. It’s probably going to come down to which date the flights are cheapest for me! I probably won’t be going to the Part 2 either, seems pointless. Andddddd to answer your question, I’m a boy. And you? Are you planning on dorming your first-year?

I’m at Evergreen Valley HS. What about you? I’m actually driving down (sucks… 6 hours of boredom.) I’m going to try to get a dorm but it looks like there’s not nearly enough to accommodate everyone, so I’m trying to line up a back-up plan and I don’t know any girls who are going to CSUF… so now I guess I need to meet some people and rent a place with them. Are you trying to get a dorm?

I’m at Independence H.S. I’m actually also going to be driving down there with my car. I’m trying to dorm (aren’t first-years required to dorm?). But I heard that you’re not guaranteed for on-campus housing, so if I don’t get a dorm, I’ll for sure be looking for an apartment/room also. I visited the campus just a few days ago, and I must say, the campus is real nice and the dorms (doubles) and REAL big!

I visited too, took a tour on Thursday. The suites did look pretty awesome (: First-years definitely aren’t required to dorm because they have about 800 bedspaces for a freshman class of 4,000. That’s why I’m kind of freaking out at this point. They said most people living in dorms are fresh and sophomores, but let’s just say the odds are against us.

Mmmm icic. So you’d dorm if you were given the chance to, correct? I guess I should start checking out housing/apartments in the Fullerton area and and whatnot. Not a bad idea. Hahah.

Fullerton is a unique place to live that its residence are either college students or people who come from poor economic situations. Thus, living in apartments is a really awkward situation with ghetto people who cant afford anything better and just college students who want the cheapest rent for 4 years…
That being said, the dorms can be a tough place to live because the RAs are pretty strict and that your rights as a tenant are very limited. My basic rights as a resident were violated alot like I would have R.A’s knock on the door at 2 am which is when they do the rounds to ask why clothes were hanging on the balcony. If this was an apartment complex we would have been given notice through a letter…
Anyways, any questions?

^ How’s the social life there? Me, being from Norcal, I’m worried that there wouldn’t be anything to do on the weekends since CSUF is such a commuter school. Do RA’s tend to set up events and/or get-togethers? How was it living in the dorms with no meal-plans? And just anything else you’d like us to know? Thanks!

It all depends on your personality really…Honestly making friends in college is really easy and all you have to do is just be social…Some people I have known that lived in the dorms hated it because of how dorm life can be and some relished in it. Living in the dorms now sucks more than anything because they are totally revamping the whole structure of the new dorms thus there is constant construction. The freaking thing cost around 140 million dollars to make and wont be done till 2011 summerish?

But to answer your questions:
Social life~ The greek life here is pretty weak sauce and that the drop out rate is to the point that they might shut it down. Fullerton is a weird place because everyone from the inland empire that once to get out of that hell hole typically come to csuf thus it is bro central. My freshman roommate was a bro but was an exception to the ****** rule which worked out nicely. Honestly the first month is vital in making friends because everyone is looking for legit people to spend possibly the next 4 years with or more.

R.As~ Truly a hit or miss experience because my R.A was truly awesome and would never write anyone up. Warning: Be cautious around those with the blue and orange backpacks! They have events thrown by the R.As but I never really found them appealing.

Lack of Meal Plan~ Once again this is based up to you because if you know how to cook than it can be a very good thing. My old roommate didnt even know that aluminum and microwaves are bad news bears. The bad thing though is that some of your roommates might be very messy…Plus, the doubles freezer space is crazy limited, trying to fit 6 guys worth of frozen food takes tetris status mastery…

Commuter School~ Yeah, some people go home on the weekends and that can suck sometimes but its not a complete ghost town.

Csuf has some awesome free shows on wednesdays at noon that are usually indie bands if you are into that kind of thing. I think that since I have come to this school, csuf has really tried to make the student life better overall. ASI is the main reason behind some really cool event that happen at csuf…Even though csuf has been decimated by budget cuts it still feels like the school spirit has gotten better thanks to the ASI…

I dont know if any of this is helpful but feel free to ask anymore questions…By the way, what are your other options for schools because I have close friends in almost every cali state college except UC merced

heyy there
so im 90% sure imma be goin to fullerton. i live in LA but havnt gone to take a look at it yet. so i jus wanna say thanks for that info it really helps.

I do agree that it looks very nice! There’s a very nice feeling about the campus and the students don’t seem to be cocky-- at least the ones I talked to weren’t.
