Hi College Confidential,
I have to choose what college I want to go to in a week and I have no clue here are my reasons and cons of each school.
For Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly, my high school friends are going there, it will be just four years no worrying about transfer, I will be living home for both. The cons are that all my close relatives are all going to UC schools and I will feel dumb around them and I know I can do better and get into a UC. Csuf campus is okay but cal poly I hate agriculture. I am undeclared major so I will change my mind a lot. For mt sac I can transfer to a uc, stay even closer to home, and it will be easier that Fullerton and pomona. The cons are I will have to take honors courses and maintain a super high gpa and if I'dont get into Uci or better I would have wasted my time cause I will end up going to a cal state. Money is not an issue I am just very confused

I could’ve went to a UC. I didn’t.

Dude, just go to a Cal Poly Pomona/SLO or better. It’s not going to matter much if you come from what is considered a good school. Prestige only takes you so far. It’s what degree you majored in that matters these days. It’s not what school you went to (as long as you didn’t come from a place KNOWN for pumping out subpar graduates), it’s what you know. If you can demonstrate you are the right candidate for the job, no one’s going to care about your schooling unless you’re going for one of those investment banker jobs. The employers will come.

Honestly, if it bothers you that much, transfer to a UC school after spending a couple years at a JC. But it would be idiotic to go to a UC school without knowing what you’re going to do when you pay so much to go there.

You hate agriculture? I go to Cal Poly Pomona. Dude, you barely notice it. If you take a jogging class, then you’ll definitely see it. For the most part, you’re in the urban side of the campus. I don’t understand why you care what school you’d go to because it doesn’t matter really what UC you go to if your major is worthless. If you did engineering, Cal Poly Pomona would be a great fit.

My advice: Go to Mt. Sac if you’re directionless and then decided where to transfer. It’s not a waste to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona, especially if you’re a STEM major.

Honestly, though…your self-worth shouldn’t be determined by which school you attend. Where you got your degree from will become irrelevant once you’ve worked for a while.
