I live in huntington beach, so im in the ‘local guaranteed’ group luckily

I have NO IDEA what to study though! I applied with journalism as my major and business as my minor, but Im thinking of changing to psychology since I can’t see me doing business calculus easily:/ any advice on which department has best teachers/programs?

Im also gonna live in the dorms! the questionaire is confusing though… Idk if i should mark sports and sorority as a “yes interested” because Im trying to stay optimistic. I havent sent in the application yet though because my mom wants me to do the tour, which I have a feeling the rooms and best housing is already taken :/

does anybody here have any stories/advice on their roommate experience or which dorm is best (parkside commons, residence, very quiet building…) ?

I can’t believe that in this thread alone, there are two OOS accepted students! That’s so awesome!

@HBemily- There are plenty of dorm spaces. I think it’s a good idea to visit CSULB first rather than choosing based off pictures and words. It’s the only way you’ll see in person which dorm residency fits your personality best.

@kanz3n- A 3.4 should get you in as a transfer, but since Biology is impacted, you never know. Unfortunately, you are going to have to play the waiting game. Good luck! :]

@trackman274- Congrats man! California is going to be a complete environment change from Massachusetts. Have you been to Cali before?

@EvaEve03- No offense, but as an OOS student even with great stats, CSULB was not a sure thing. With that said, congrats again on getting accepted. I think you should definitely apply to be part of UHP. ;D

So hey. Congrats to those of you have been accepted. I’m drowning in envy XD

I also applied but I havent heard ANYTHING. I keep calling but it always say the whole “initial review has been made” blah blah blah. I keep hearing about people getting denied left and right and only know 3 poeple that have been accepted from my high school. So what are my chances with a weighted GPA of 3.62 and SAT scores of 1570 (1080 with out writing)???.. oh and im out of the area… but still in california los angeles. Seriously, im dying here!

This is so frustrating. This is the school I WANT to go to. Still no word. I mean thats a good thing that it still says “Initial Review” cause I still have a chance. But it’s depressing cause i’m psyching myself out. Only 17 more days till i have an answer. I guess.

Oh and i really don’t understand the UHP thing. I wish they did it like Fullerton.

Yes I was out there this past summer, great place for college!
P.s I’m an athlete so that may have helped me get in, from what ive heard about 90,000 people applied idk what percent are going to be accepted though.

I don’t understand how

Like i want to do it but is there more to it?

Just wondering, if I’m a freshman applicant can I apply to the Honors Program after I graduate? Right now, I have a 3.4 gpa but once I graduate I’ll have a 3.75 as long as I get a 4.8 this last semester [which I’m pretty much guaranteed to get]. I will have a much greater chance with the latter gpa and I’ll have more time to retake my SATs and try to score higher

@kagw11- Every semester they have a group of classes that are for the honors program. Some repeat every semester/ every year, but most of the time, they are different each semester. Most of the classes will probably not apply to YOUR MAJOR, but most count for your GEs (the classes everyone has to take). Honestly, most of the classes don’t interest me. You don’t have to take any honors class you don’t like. However, if you don’t take an honors class for over a year, you get kicked out. The main advantage of the honors program is priority registration. You get to pick your classes before everyone else regardless of how many units you have. This is so important when you have to fight for the right classes to graduate in time! Normally, the more units, you have the sooner you pick classes, but they disregard this for UHP students. FOR ME,THIS ALONE MAKES THE UHP WORTH IT.

@blondiex293- I honestly wouldn’t bother retaking your SAT since you’re already accepted. Just apply before your SOAR date.

I don’t know when they’ll start allowing you to pick your SOAR date, but get the EARLIEST date you can in June. Incoming freshmen get last pick at classes since everyone at CSULB would have registered for Fall 2011 classes by then. Don’t be the freshmen who has their SOAR date in late August and have the worst classes with the worst professors at the worst times to choose from.

@thisisu- Yup, you have to call and ask them to reset it for you.

Hey guys, I wanted to know if there are any transferring Engineers out there, and if any of you have received an admission decision yet. I have heard that the engineering department reviews their applications separate, and that it can take longer to get a decision. I have been calling the admissions number to check my status every hour or so, haha, but it still just says “Your application has been received…” I’m just getting nervous now that we’re in the second half of the month.

I have a 3.92 GPA, I’m a Veteran, and I’m transferring from a CCC, so I can’t imagine I’ll be rejected, just wish I could hear back already, AHHHHHH!

CaliENGNR
They take engineering transfers with only 12 units complete, so I can’t see how you wouldn’t get in. You do need to have completed the first Calc class. Did you check to make sure you don’t have any outstanding documents? You can do so through the phone system or by calling into admissions.

I just wanted to mention that some majors have their own SOAR dates. For engineers, your classes are picked for you, except for your foundational GE, to ensure that you will get out of there in 5 years.

I believe physical science and a couple of others are like this as well. You meet with an adviser each semester instead of just once a year. And, it’s mandatory.

Also, if you are a varsity athlete you’ll get similar treatment.

Yes, the class times or profs may not be ideal, but if you are living on campus, 8 am means you leave for class 10 minutes prior. That seems a lot less early than it does for commuters.
Bottomline…weigh the honors program values against things like adding a minor or not enjoying the classes. There a many ways to distinguish yourself in college.
