CSULB - Class of 2015

i won’t be dorming (never have) but just know that even if you don’t end up liking your room mate, if you have any social aptitude you’ll probably either:

a. deal with it
b. crash at a gf/bf’s dorm
c. crash at a friends dorm/ place
d. not be in the same room @ the same time

my friends have been in situations where they are bff’s with their roomies or totally hate each other and usually a-d happens. take the process a lot lighter, have fun with it and just know you do have options when dealing with “bad” room mates (aka people you dont like)

happy dorming!

Does anyone know where we send our final transcipts? My school needs me to fill out a form on where to send them. Thanks!

Just send them to Cal State Long Beach

Accepted

GPA: 3.75
SAT: 1750

Major: Biology (impacted)

Hi guys! This thread is pretty small. It took me awhile to find CSULB. Does anyone here going to the SOAR workshop for science majors? Are you supposed to sign up for MDPT placement test? I signed up for the Chem placement test, but I have no idea where to go for the MDAPT.

Your SOAR advisors will be able to explain all those things for you

Does anyone know If the Commons are air conditioned? It seems like RLC and the traditional halls are the only ones and I want to know before we start picking rooms

@jrairship, online website should have testing information, also in the welcome packet it has phone numbers for testing. Should be the same as the place you called for the chem assessment, they do all the assessment in the same area i believe.

@Nikolnicole, I beleive that the commons are may not be air conditioned

So does anyone here know a good Chem111A/B professor to recommend to me at CSULB? I took chemistry last year and I had a terrible experience of having a sarcastic teacher who sometimes degrades you with his jokes. I looked at ratemyprofessor.com, and all of the professors so far look bad D:. Most of the complaints are that the teachers grade unfairly or that they don’t like it when you ask them questions or that they don’t explain things very clearly. Is there any hope that I can find a professor who can undo my bad impression of this subject?

@ThePowerofOne: Thank you. It says here that you get exempted if you get a high enough score for SAT. Guess I didn’t have to worry about that after all :D.

I took honors chemistry as a junior and remembered close to nothing from that class. I took CHEM 140 this past semester and found it fairly easy. My teacher had average ratings too. You should take those ratings with a grain of salt, especially science classes that are weed out classes for certain majors because there are always some students who are bitter that they did poorly and couldn’t get into their majors. These ratings are not a total reflection of the teachers. With that said, maybe you’ll find your experience with chemistry much better at an university than in HS. However, I doubt you’ll get into a science class as a freshmen, especially CHEM 111A (You have to take the chemistry placement test first to register anyway). I recommend taking CHEM 100 (unfortunately already full) or CHEM 101 (still has open spaces) before jumping into CHEM 111A if you are unsure. I know CHEM 100 is taught by Gufrey, a teacher who was ranked as one of the top 25 best teachers in the NATION by ratemyprofessors. Your best chances at a CHEM class this fall semester is CHEM 101. Both teachers seem fine, but there are only a few spaces left. If your SOAR date is one of the more earlier ones, you might have a chance of getting the class.

When can you start registering for class? My SOAR workshop date isn’t until July because I’m a science major. Do we register at SOAR workshop, or after it when we talk to our advisors?

At your SOAR workshop, you will talk with your advisers who will help you pick out your classes. They’ll approve your classes, and you will register that same day.

Question. What exactly is the address that I send my official final transcripts to? Do I just send it to 1250 Bellflower Boulevard, or is there anything else specific that I need to write? I’m lost.

Your high school should be the ones sending your transcripts for you, because they have to be signed and sealed and all that.

Nope, my school doesn’t. They gave it to me to send, I haven’t opened it so it’s still official with its seal and stamp. I just need to know where to send it, the specific address.

Did anyone take the CPT (Chemistry Placement Test) yet? Is the test hard? I’m in a science major, so it’s a requirement for me to take it this July. It’s been almost 2 years since I took chemistry in high school (regular). At the moment, I am just reviewing the stuff I learned with the SAT II Chemistry study guide book. How many questions are there on the test, and how do they score the test?

@EvaEve03- That address should be fine. You could also note down “Admission’s Office” to be more specific.

@The Power Of One: Thanks so much! :)

who can’t wait for august?
