If you're dorming at long beach, which housing did you get into? Im in residence commons, my first choice :) I'm really nervous for roommate selection next week since i dont know anyone who's going to school here and living here. has anyone done this before? Is it just basically do you smoke what time do you wake up what music do you like that we choose our roommate from? Doesnt seem like nearly enough info... Any info is appreciated.

woah woah. they released where you’ll be?

HECK YEAH!

got into international house (first choice)

it even says i dont need to go into the portal and pick a roommate (aw), since they do it all manually. all i know is theyre gonna be from a different country. so epic. can’t wait.

wait! They sent me an email last week telling me I got into the dorms, but when I check my status, it doesn’t tell me which dorms I am in! Why is this? I want to know so badly! I’m hoping for the traditional halls.

Looks like I got international housing too. mmm my second choice but hey, my first to preferences were my top choices. so still overall content :).

My son went through the housing process last year.

Unless something has changed from last year, roommates need to pick each other i.e. both parties need to agree the selection. I do remember him getting emails from interested roommates, so I know there is a facility to contact prospects with similar survey results. I believe the initial contact is made through the application, and email is generated and then you can ask each other questions from there.

Otherwise (if you don’t mutually select a roommate), at the end of the roommate selection period, the system assigns you a roommate based the survey information. From what I understand from my son, the vast majority go this route. He used mutual selection since he knew someone he wanted to room with, but he had three friends from hs that did random. If I remember correctly, they found out who their roommate was some time in the summer.

Yeah they said that we begin our roommate selection monday the 16th and then our room selection June 5th (or something like that)

international house students dont pick their roommate or room.

but you can send a request in. hopefully my request for japanese roommate works!

my first choice is the RLC.
anybody? :)

wait, does everyone know where they’re going to be?
if so where can i find this?

I got an email may 4th saying I got into Residence Commons. I applied for housing March 17th. Maybe the emails are delayed in going out and you guys will get them soon??

oh wait i lied! haha it just said i was confirmed for housing… im not sure what hall im in yet. where did you guys see yours at? right on the housing application?

My email sounded like yours, kayleerae. I clicked on the link in the email and then clicked “applications for housing”, then “apply online”, then I logged in and on the side it will tell you your info. For my building, it just says unallocated. :(

Yes that’s exactly what my application says kat303. It’s okay though. That email means were in housing for sure. Just don’t know where yet :)

I just got an email now that details how the roommate selection process will go! :D

I called the housing office and they said any housing that we pick a roommate in we also pick our room in whichever hall we want. So basically you and your roommate have to agree on the hall you want to live in. :)

awesome! thanks for the info!

I was curious about the process of choosing a roommate…do you just go based off the surveys we filled out in the housing application or do you actually get to talk to the people over the internet first? The surverys were very vague and I’m nervous I’m not going to get along with my roommate haha

The email says this:

Thank you for confirming your housing space at CSULB. You now have the opportunity to select your roommate. Below outlines steps to search and select a roommate. The process will begin Monday May 16th at 9am.

Instructions to begin your selection:

Login to the application webportal at [Housing Redirect/url

Go to “Housing application & Status”

Go to “Apply Online”

Enter your campus id and password.

Click on “Go to Application”

Select “2011-2012”

Save and Continue

Go to “Roommate Requests” (on left menu panel, #11):

To search for a roommate you may choose by:

1. Browse by Details – this helps if you are looking for a specific person you know and know some detail about them (last name, first name, screen name, or class level)
2. Browse by Matches – view top roommate profiles that the system matched you with.

Please note you will be able to send messages through the portal, send roommate requests, and accept or decline roommate requests. Each of these capabilities will give an email notification to the student. If you request a roommate it is their choice to respond or not respond and the housing office cannot mandate a student to respond. That said, please be kind and respond to any inquires that you receive. If you click on “Roommate Requests” you will be able to see who has sent you a message as well as roommates you have requested and/or the roommate you have accepted.

You MUST save and continue at the end of all searches or selections.

Please keep in mind, the earlier you make your selection, the better the chance of confirming your preference. Students who do not select a roommate will automatically be assigned one.

But the email says we can search for like friends we know or see the people they thought were best matches and from there we can send messages back and forth to kind of get to know eachother before choosing. Im so glad about that haha
