Hey guys, I was offered 5.5K subsidized and and 7K un-subsidized loans, 12.5K total for the academic year. I’m not quite sure what this entails. If the year costs about 6K which I assume is right for CSULB, does this mean I get the rest to use for books and other needs? They broke it down by semester, Fall 6.5K and Spring 6.5K, so how is it usually disbursed?
Oh, and what the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized?
Thanks!
Simply stated, subsidized loan interest is paid by the government while you are at least a half time student. An unsubsidized loan’s interest accrues while you are a student.
I believe the balance can go toward housing. Since you’re a nontrad and you probably stated you’ll be a commuter, housing is still included in calculating aid. Aid is disbursed 10 days before classes start.
