I really wanna transfer to CSULB for the fall 2017 / spring 2018 term. But the problem is, I’m only a freshman. /: And they don’t accept lower division transfers. Is there anyone I can email about this & see if there’s possibly maybe an exception? I checked their website and couldn’t really find email info? Have they EVER accepted lower division transfers?

Long Beach is the most popular campus in the CSU system besides CPP-SLO. It receives over 90K applications.
It is impacted. They are not going to “make and exception” just because you want it and don’t like your private university.
There are a few CSU’s that are not impacted and would take you.
Priority admission goes to High school applicants,
then CC transfers,
then CSU to CSU or UC to CSU,
then privates.
@“aunt bea” what if i just applied as a tech/math/science/nursing major & then changed my major once i got there? i feel like i’d probably have a shot. maaaaybe idk. i mean i think i have a 2.0+ (don’t really know how to check but i have a’s and b’s), and i didn’t do terrible in high school - i had a 4.0+ all 4 years, was one of my school’s valedictorians, got an 1840 on my sat, was in NHS junior/senior year, did some extracurriculars, took a lot of ap/honors and i have 13 ap credits …
CSULB is IMPACTED; all of those majors are impacted. You will not be accepted when they have thousands of CC students, with great grades who have met the requirements for transfer. Its the most popular campus for transfer.
Your best bet is to apply to another CSU that is accepting all majors.
**The school is full. ** I don’t know how else to get you to understand that.
They are not going to let you apply to all of those majors, especially since you are lower priority for admissions, and you don’t meet the criteria for transfer for upper division, are not a CC transfer and are not in the CSU nor UC system. As a private school transfer with minimal units and mediocre stats, it aint gonna happen. AP credits are used either for elective credit or prerequisites. Everyone tends to have AP credits from high school.
Sorry, that’s the harsh truth.
@“aunt bea” i don’t WANT to go to another CSU though, i want to go to long beach. my parents said i can only transfer once. what if i just take a bunch of credits during the summer / at the community college next to my university / online classes and get up to 60? then could i apply as an upper division transfer?
edit - lol nvm i guess ill just give up on csulb hahahahaha. cool. ok.
Then you have a problem. Apply, but I suspect you will be rejected.
Long beach is impacted, impacted, impacted.
Even students, who are upper division transfers, don’t get in. It is a full campus.
My son toured Long Beach just to get a safety.
When we arrived on campus several years ago, at admissions, they told us, “We get over 80,000 applications. If you don’t have the requirements, you won’t get in. We are impacted.”
They are very picky about online classes. They make the rules about what they accept. Talk to an admissions counselor there.
If they were to accept online units, you wouldn’t get up to 60 units in a reputable program, in one summer. It would be suspect.
@“aunt bea” its chill. i’d probably not get in even if i applied my junior year bc the school i attend right now isn’t good like at all. so yeah idk. i won’t apply.
Apply after you get near upper division requirements for transfer.
Right now, as a lower division transfer, its not going to happen at Long Beach.
@“aunt bea” lol but I’m transferring to a diff. school next year maybe & my parents won’t let me transfer twice. and if i stay @ my current school, which is like a step above community college, i probably won’t get in. soooooo i guess i can’t lololol.
If you’ve put in this much effort, you can try when you and your credits are ready.
@“aunt bea” would i have a shot at getting in if i finished this semester @ my current school, transferred to CC, then applied to CSULB (& other schools, obviously) as a junior?
Yes, a lot better chance.
CC students are a priority.
Not sure where you are now… you note your current school is one step above a CC - what does that mean?
Most CSUs only take transfer aps for Fall admission. None of the CSUs even look at applications for student who can’t apply to transfer as a Jr. You are required to show a path to 60 units by the end of the previous Spring semester (summer credits don’t count toward the 60 unit threshold) AP credits, however, do. So, if you have a bunch of AP credits, it is possible to transfer after just one year at another college.
the lowest threshold will be for applicants from the CCs CSULB has designated as local. This table will help you identify which ones are alligned with each CSU. http://www.calstate.edu/sas/onestopkiosk/documents/CSULocalAdmission-ServiceAreas.pdf
I’d also encourage you to be more open minded about where you attend college. There are many good colleges that will be happy to have you.
@NCalRent - by that I just meant that the quality of education at my school isn’t the best lol, I feel like I’d be getting a better education at a community college. It’s okay though, I’ll probably just end up transferring my junior year. I also don’t have that many AP credits, I only have 13. Also I’m not considered local for CSULB. I mean, I’m technically from LA County (Lancaster/Palmdale area), but I don’t think that’s considered local. I just don’t want to transfer as a junior from my current school bc then I KNOW I won’t get in. /:
Where do you go to school now?
@NCalRent - its a private school in SoCal. APU.
Got it - a local CC is going to save you a ton of money and give you your best shot at CSULB.
Good luck.
