I just got accepted to UCSB on waitlist. However, I have already SIR CSULB prior to 5/1. My major is biology, with a career goal of becoming a physical therapist. What have attractive me to CSULB is that you have a physical therapist program, diversity of student body, and Long Beach is closer to home. Additionally, my feeling is that once I SIR CSULB, I felt committed and have convinced myself that this is the right school for me. I moved on and plans were made until the acceptance notice from UCSB yesterday. My parents strongly encourage me to consider UCSB and we plan to visit UCSB this week. I didn't visit UCSB earlier because I didn't think I would get admitted.

Anyway, I very confuse now and may be things will clear up once I toured UCSB this week. I would appreciate if you could provide comments on why I should come to CSULB. I also posted a similar thread on UCSB site. Thanks.

If money isn’t a problem go to UCSB. There are more opportunities there, just don’t be sucked in by the terrible party scene there.

hey im in a similar situation! I am a transfer student though and my top 4 are Long Beach (cheeeeeeaaaap), UCSB, North Carolina or USC.

So yeah if people can talk about it, that would be great :)

What is your intended major Jocelyn?

You guys should definitely visit first before you make any decision.

Here’s what I have to say about the whole CSU vs. UC debate:

I applied to University of the Pacific, UCLA, UCI, UCR, UCSD, and CSULB. I got accepted into every school except UCLA. I chose CSULB for several reasons which might be cons for other people. CSULB is significantly cheaper. I don’t want to be in debt before I go to medical school (or graduate school for that matter). Nor do I want to my parents worry about paying the education of my siblings and I. I also don’t like large class sizes. I’m the type of person that needs a more intimate environment and a teacher that is accessible. This would be harder at a UC in a classroom of hundreds of other students. I also know I will do much better at a CSU than at a UC. Obviously it is going to be harder to maintain a high GPA at a UC. However, there are more research opportunities at UCs (this is important if you want to get into a medical school), but I know I’m the type of person who wants this bad enough, that I’ll find some. While the environment, teacher, and speed of the class may differ in each school, the material is the same. Note that you probably won’t get the real “college experience” that you would find at a UC, at CSULB since it is a commuter school. I’m not saying the name of the school doesn’t matter, because it does for medical school and finding jobs!

No one can tell you which school is best for you, trust me I’ve tried and after years and months of contemplating this, I was finally able to make my decision. Only you can make this decision. You will be at this school for several years of your life, so make sure you are certain! Good luck! :]

Csulb- Accounting
UCSB- Econ and Accounting

and yeah my main reason on even considering long beach is that it is super cheap while with ucsb i would have 30k in loans per year

@The Power of One- would you have gone to a UC if you got a full ride there?

I honestly don’t know. Part of me would say yes without a doubt, but another part of me is unsure.
