Hello everyone, I am about to be a senior in high school and i am interested in going to CSUN. I am from Minnesota and last month I went to california to go on a campus tour, I loved it! I just have a few questions about the application. My GPA and ACT scores meet the eligibility index so does that basically mean i’m gonna get in?? I got a 29 on my ACT but my GPA is bad (3.0) and i’m not a local applicant so do you guys think i’ll get in?? also how nessasary is it to have a car on campus? Thanks guys!!
I forgot to mention I am going to have taken 5 ap classes by the time i graduate
I would call them to make sure because I really don’t want to give you the wrong advice (I’m a local area transfer who is in an impacted major so I don’t really know what the freshmen requirements are).
As for a car, I would recommend that big time. It can get pretty hot in Northridge (yesterday it was well over a 100 degrees here) and the metro buses always seem to run extra slow when it’s hot. I’ve heard that parking at the school can turn into an episode of the game of thrones when people are trying to get a spot but I don’t think the situation is any different than any other college.
As far as acceptances go, CSUN seems to admit local area students first. And then they begin to accept out of area students. I believe a couple years ago, CSUN didn’t accept any student from out of the local area, they were already full. Also, from what I have read here on CC, the GPA requirement is higher for out of area applicants than it is for local area applicants.
Like RedLari said, your best bet is to call and try to speak with an admissions rep.
And yes, a car, or a friend with a car, is pretty necessary for all of Southern California. Unless you never plan on going anywhere.
If your CSU capped weighted GPA is 3.0 and your ACT is 29, then your EI is 890 which is the minimum EI for non-local applicants.

Getting an acceptance will depend upon your intended major, how you rank (EI) in comparison to your fellow applicants and how many spots are available. Local applicants get priority and as noted by @jenxner, CSUN in the past has not accepted non-local applicants but since you are OOS you might have a better chance since you are probably evaluated in a separate applicant pool.
Definitely worth an application and best of luck.
