When is the earliest that you can officially declare a second major at CSUN? And I guess this goes for all colleges because I’m unsure, but are you allowed to take classes required for a major before declaring that major? I wanted to pick up a second major but wanted to take some of the required classes my first year on campus before declaring it in order to make sure it’s what I want. Is that allowed, or would I have to have officially declared that major before taking classes?
Can I double major?
Students wishing to double major must have at least 30 units completed, a minimum of 3.0 GPA and be able to complete both majors within 140 units.
Typically, does double majoring mean that both majors have been officially declared? I wanted to take a class that’s required for the second major my first semester on campus to be certain it’s what I want to do, before officially declaring it as a major. Do colleges usually require that you’ve been admitted to actual major status before you can take any classes that fall under it?

You have to have 30 semester units under your belt before declaring your 2nd major. Depending upon the class, declared majors usually have priority but if spots are still open, then anyone can sign up for the class. You can ask at orientation if it is possible.
