CSUN Music Industry program and overall quality?

I am considering transferring to CSUN next year from out of state. I'm looking into Berklee and Cal State Northridge, but am interested in checking out CSUN due to its low cost, and LA location. Berklee is a private school, much more expensive, and is not situated in a major industry operation hub, like LA (Boston).

I am interested in Northridge's music industry studies program, and was wondering if I could find anyone on here that was familiar with it. Were you enrolled in it? Do you know anyone that was in it? How are you or they doing after graduation?

Also, how is Northridge ranked among other csu's and uc's in the LA area, particularly in music? How would you rate the college overall? I know Cal Poly Pomona also offers a music business program, but is there anywhere else I should check out?

I'm not personally familiar with CSUN or the music industry offerings, but my son applied to several other CA public schools as a trumpet major.....CSULB, CSUS, UCI, UCSB, etc. Afterward, it seemed clear we made a mistake by not including CSUN. A number of people have mentioned their large and well-known music program to us. Their jazz bands are highly regarded around here, they always seem to take first place at the Reno Jazz Festival, for instance.

Not to meantion, the instate tuition is practically nil.

Our son did audition by tape at Long Beach, that program also looked quite good. But he ended up choosing a smaller music dept. at UCI, because of the better overall academic reputation of the university, and because he heard good things about the specific trumpet teacher there. School hasn't started yet...so we'll see if this was a good choice or not!

Good luck with your plans, we would be interested in hearing more about what you find out...

One more thought: have you gone onto MySpace and used their school search engine? We were able to meet current music students at several schools that way, to get the insiders' view on the various schools S had applied to. In fact, one of the students we met was attending Northridge...we wanted his opinion on the UCI trumpet teacher, who used to teach at Northridge. So you could probably get some good info using that method.
