CSUN or CSUF for Accounting

Hi, I'm a business major and am trying to decide whether to transfer to California State University Long Beach (CSULB) or California State University Northridge(CSUN). Is one better than the other? Which has a better business school? Which has better campus life? All suggestions, recommendations, and insights are needed!!! Thank you very much.

LB has more overall reputation and its generally considered the better CSU.

I’m not sure where you got this. I live in the general vicinity, and CSUN has a very good reputation.

I agree with calla1 I have heard many good things about CSUN. calla1 do you have more info about CSUN and their accounting program I will really appreciate that

thank you very much

CSULB has LONG had the better reputation…no pun intended.

LB is one of the top tier CSU’s, and a fine rep for its business school (and for engineering as well).

Both have good business reputations. One of my former bosses graduated from CSUN with a business admin degree and makes a comfortable middle class salary. Because of its proximity to the wealthier sections of LA, it might be easier to seek out internships. They’re basically peer schools of one another.

CSULB is generally seen as having a better on campus social life since more people seem to come from out of the service area to attend the school. However, neither are at the level of SLO or SDSU. Why don’t you ask relevant employers which schools their accountants graduated from, or see how on campus recruiting/internship potential compares with the two institutions?

Given that you’re deciding which of the two nearby schools to transfer to, you might also want to see which is a closer commute (assuming you’re commuting and not living near campus).

mom2collegekids, can you explain more about their accounting program? I will appreciate so much.

Thank you so much

whenhen, can you explain more about their accounting program? I will appreciate so much.

Thank you so much

I don’t have any personal knowledge about it. Why don’t you contact accounting professors at both schools, or try to reach out to current students in the program? Also, are you considering CSU Fullerton? It says in the title you’re deciding between CSUN and Fullerton.

Yes, Northridge is nowhere near the level of Long Beach. Long Beach is a far superior college.

CSU-LB is higher ranked in everything.
CSU-LB has higher freshman retention rate of 89% whereas CSUN has a retention rate of 75%.
CSU LB has average SAT of 1025(r+m). Northridge has an average SAT of 925 (r+m).

CSU- LB receives close to 50 thousand apps every year but Northridge only receives around 25k apps. LB is more popular and competitive to get in.

CSULB’s higher average SAT can be explained by its popularity with out of area students who need higher scores to get in. The average scores of service area students are probably comparable to, if not lower than, CSUN’s (has to do with average wealth of the two areas).

Here’s the board for [California State University - Northridge](California State University - Northridge - College Confidential Forums) and [California State University - Long Beach](California State University - Long Beach - College Confidential Forums). They both seem fairly active, so you might want to ask your questions there.

I meant to compare only between CSULB and CSUN. CSUFULL is too far to commute.

I agree with whenhen to look on the boards for each school. I have no familiarity with the accounting program at CSUN but I know many graduates who speak highly of the school in general and who are doing very well for themselves. I have not yet spoken to any dissatisfied grads.

People might prefer Long Beach for the proximity to the ocean, which may partly explain the higher number of applicants. The San Fernando Valley has never been considered a vacation spot. But it is very close to LA and to many internship opportunities.

Among all CSUs, only CSUF has AACSB accreditation for its Accounting program. CSUF is one of only two schools in the LA area to be accredited along with USC.
