Hello,
I am 29 years old and work full-time as a financial analyst at a start up company. My start up is related to the pre-paid card industry and though we are a bit late to the game with our software, it works well and is better quality than any other similar app I have seen. I hope the software sells well and I have faith in our sales lead. I also have faith in the target markets we are considering.
I will be transferring to CSUN next semester. I will have about 66 units or so and will have a gpa of about a 3.3 or so. (i am assuming, havent calculated it out yet.) I have earned a’s since my return to school except for accounting 1 and a 3 unit computers class which i recieved b’s in. I am applying a few credits from when i was 18 which consist of b’s and c’s (about 15 units?) I plan to major finance and am considering a double major in finance and accounting.
My goal is to work at an investment form hopefully as a investment banker. My life goal is to learn as much about corporate finance, quantitative game theory, and money management.
I plan to get straight A’s unless I fail to meet my own standards. A few years ago I began studying for GMAT just for fun and to see if I was even capable of understanding the material and after 2 months of study I was averaging about 690. I believe I relalistically can score 740 once I truly set my mind to it.
My ideal situation would be that i finish my undergraduate degree at CSUN and my company sells so I can cash out my stock options to fund my MBA hopefully at Berkley or another public school that is top tier.
My work history consists of working a variety of jobs such as tech support and fraud prevention at a payment gateway, assistant property manager in an apartment community, now financial analysis at my start up firm.
My current position is obviously the most prestigious and professional role i have filled so far. I am concerned that because of my non standard work history I will have limited chances for a top tier education following my undergraduate degree.
Questions:
1.) given my goals, would double majoring in accounting/finance be a waste of time?
2.) because of my work history, are my goals unrealistic in terms acceptance to a top tier MBA program?
3.) Given my background is investment banking an unrealistic career goal?
4.) Any advice for an almost 30 year old that is working full-time and taking night classes trying to finish my degree?
Thank you for your consideration, input, and time.
