CSUN to CC to UC?

Right now Im a freshman attending cal state northridge, thing is I really want to go to a UC. I graduated high school with a 3.5 and applied to UCs but only got accepted to UC Merced. I didnt want to go there so I came to CSUN now I talked to my academic adviser, and told him that I want to go to transfer to a UC. He told me the best way, was to go to a CC so I have a question is it possible? I know that CCs have TAG or TAP program and Im going to apply to Pasadena City College. Im just staying for the fall semester then doing winter at PCC and just rank up as many classes to qualify for TAG or TAP and transfer? Has anyone tried this? And about transferable classes from a CSU to CC to UC ? Does anyone know if they are transferable? I have classes that general Like American Political Institutions and Intro Environmental Health.Any help is much appreciated!!!!

Yes it’s possible to do it.
Become familiar with your school’s IGETC courses(your general ed), your future majors lower division requirements at assist.org

The classes you are taking at CSUN may or may not count in fulfilling IGETC(the general ed program you complete at any california community college). You will only know this after you submit your CSUN transcripts to PCC, where a counselor or someone at the school will review the courses you have taken at CSUN and see if they have a course equivalent at their school, or if they seem transferable. Regardless of whether or not the CSUN classes do or do not transfer, I wouldn’t count on doing the bare minimum at a CC and relying on CSUN classes. Try to complete 60 or more transferable units from a community college so that you don’t end up wondering if those CSUN classes will or will not transer(assuming your PCC counselor is unsure, unclear, or what have you).

Also what is your planned major?

Yeah I called Pasadena city college because theres where im planning to attend and said just to apply early and bring my transcript from CSUN. Also I plan going to CC all school round, Winter, Spring, Summer for two years or until I reach the 60 units I need to transfer. Im a Political Science major

Just make sure the courses you take are transferable. Always check with both schools.

Snap… Share… Enjoy!

I’m in a similar situation except I’m a sophomore. I wanted to change my major at the beginning of this semester (art to biology), but unfortunately because of the 140 unit cap I was unable to. I’m looking forward to finishing this semester at CSUN and then beginning at Pierce either in the winter if they’ll have a winter session, or for the spring semester. Now that I’ve made the decision to transfer from CSUN to CC, do I simply go to my academic advisor at CSUN and ask them for my transcript because I wish to transfer by the end of this semester?
