I am comparing both these schools as sort of a backup/financially safe option in my college search. I am applying for undergrad Jazz trumpet, and I have heard that each school is better than the other from different people. I have taken lessons with the trumpet professor at CSUN, and I love his teaching style and we work well together. I have not taken lessons with the trumpet guy down at long beach, but plan to. The trumpet guy at Northridge told me that CSUN has a better jazz program by far, with all faculty having gone to eastmen, and that their A studio band wins 1st at festivals and their B band wins 3rd against all the other A bands. I have also heard from a friend at long beach say that their band wins all of their festivals, so I'm getting mixed results. One thing I know is that I work well with the professor at Northridge, although I am not sure about the professor at long beach. Let me know what you guys think, thank you.

No one is going to know more about their jazz programs than you and the research you’ve done. So, if all things are equal, LB is the right choice, simply because it’s the better, more prestigious school in general. It’s ranked higher in most categories, on most radars out there. But again, it’s all about the department you’re entering, so keep researching that first.

CSUN well known for it’s accounting major
