I am planning on applying to a csu, but cannot find a definitive ranking of them based on just their engineering programs. Can somebody give me the top 5 or so? I know Cal poly SLO leads with maybe cal poly pomona or san jose state following.
Thanks in advance

Here's from USNWR for undergrad institutions, all of engineering. I've included some California private colleges as well just to have a complete list.

Cal PolySan Luis Obispo * 4.0

Calif. State Poly. Univ.Pomona * 3.3

San Jose State University (CA)* 3.3

Santa Clara University (CA) 3.2

Loyola Marymount University (CA) 3.1

California State U.Los Angeles * 3.0

California State U.Northridge * 2.9

California State U.Long Beach * 2.8

California State U.Sacramento * 2.8

University of the Pacific (CA) 2.7

California Maritime Academy * 2.6

California State U.Fullerton * 2.6

California State Univ.Chico * 2.5

Humboldt State University (CA)* 2.5

that was exactly what i was looking for ,thanks.

Anybody know where San Diego State falls in this list? I was under the impression that the Engineering progam was fairly good, and applied there in case I didn't get accepted to the Cal Polys ... It must be just as good or better than Chico and Humboldt, no?

Here's the new ranking for engineering programs that don't offer a PhD.

4 Cal Poly SLO 3.9902

12 Cal Poly Pomona 3.3537

12 San Jose State 3.3625

34 Cal State L.A. 2.9677

38 Cal State Long Beach 2.9434

38 Cal State Northridge 2.9275

51 Cal State Sacramento 2.8421

75 Cal State Chico 2.5789

75 Cal State Fullerton 2.6481

75 San Francisco State 2.5789

San Diego State is ranked with engineering programs that offer a PhD.
It rates #86 on that list with a score of 2.551 (tied with schools such as BYU, LSU, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Oklahoma).

Personally, I would put it a notch below the Cal Polys + SJSU and comfortably ahead of Cal State L.A.

That being said, I would much rather attend SDSU, SJSU, CSULB or CSUN over Cal State LA. Choose for campus environment instead.

Great - thanks much for the info. That confirms my original impression about SDSU Engineering. I was admitted but haven't visited the campus yet. And I totally agree about finding the right college environment, and not following the prestige or ranking factor.
