CSUSM -- what's the business program like and should i live in oceanside or carlsbad ???

I applied to a bunch of CSUs as I’m transferring this upcoming fall
I’m from the bay area, currently living on the central coast
considering CSUSM

What’s the business/marketing program like? In terms of quality of education and respect from potential employers. Do not give me your opinion if it is an ignorant one.

Also, I’m aware CSUSM is a commuter campus. Money isn’t a huge issue, but I don’t want to commute more than 30 mins. I hope I get into SDSU but if I don’t living in carlsbad sounds pretty cool.

Anyone from Carlsbad or Oceanside?
I’d prefer some place with a fun night life/bar scene that isn’t super dangerous seeing as I’m a girl.

Thanks !

The problem with San Marcos is that you usually take the 78 to get there. It’s two lanes for most of the highway and if someone sneezes on one side of the freeway, both sides of the freeway stop. Accidents tie up both sides of the freeway.

Oceanside and Carlsbad will be at least 30 minutes. If you have the cash, there are other beach communities. If traffic backs up on the 78, which it always does, you can be on that thing for upwards of an hour or more.

I don’t know too much about the business program at San Marcos, but you’ll be fine if you get into SDSU. Their business program is really good!

I live in Oceanside and am on the 78 freeway regularly. It’s three lanes in both directions. In my experience, traffic really isn’t that bad on the 78. It can get backed up on the interchange between the 78 and I-15 in Escondido, but that wouldn’t affect someone living in Oceanside or Carlsbad and going to CSUSM. Of course, any freeway can get tied up with an accident, but I haven’t seen it happen that often.

I don’t much about the business program at CSUSM; SDSU’s is well-regarded.

If you end up at CSUSM, Oceanside and Carlsbad are going to be your two closest beach cities. The further south you go, the longer your commute and the more expensive it will be.
