I am considering doing the CTD summer program at NU and was wondering if anyone here has done it before. How intense are the classes? Did you like it and did you return the next year? Would you recommend it for others? Thanks.

They're VERY intense. But fun. Make sure you take classes that aren't too hard. For example, don't take AP Chemistry and such.

It depends on the class. Its very expensive, though and there are pretty strict rules regarding free time.

CTD was a very good experience for my kid. He went two summers in a row. He took math and physics. The math class was self-paced and so he had to read chapters and do work in class on his own. The teacher would only help if asked individually. Son did not like that format; still, it forced him to get through the material because he had to pass each chapter test daily to go on to next chapter. Physics was very difficult as well but format was lecture/discussion. He thought the quality of his Physics teacher was excellent. He thought his class mates were all intelligent and hard working. Son is a straight A student; intelligent and hardworking and felt some peers were really, really gifted compared to him. You don't have to take class for credit if you are worried about your grade. HW load was very heavy. Socially, son has always made long-lasting friendships. For the most part, kids at CTD work hard; some are too nerdy to seek out social fun but there has always been a group of kids that are brainy and fun. Kids come from all over the states and some international students as well. Food selection was good as reported by son and there was plenty of opportunity for fun and alone time with friends. Hope that helps.

The real value is the edge it provides as a freshman applicant.
