Hi guys so I am preparing my (desired) schedule for my upcoming CTOPS. My freshman seminar was already approved. (I'm a first year fellow).

I am beginning the process of putting classes I want to take in my student center. Is this required? Also, should I print out my AP scores from my first 3 years (senior grades won't be available) and bring them to CTOPS? On the whole, I just read conflicting info on what to bring and the best way to prepare and any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Put your whole potential schedule in the shopping cart and then you can hit “enroll” at the appropriate time. You only have about 30 mins at CTOPS to search, put in cart and enroll, so it’s better to come prepared. You will want to also put some alternatives in the cart in case your fisrt choices arent available. Searching at the registration session will eat up your time. Also I suggest waitlisting yourself for classes too. Things will open up over the summer when classes are getting dropped. Take copies of your AP/SAT/SAT2 scores with you. Sometimes the advisors working the session will need to see them, especially if you are skipping entry level classes. UNC is really slow at inputting test scores, so I kept a file with me in the fall with all my scores in case there ever was a question. I also had copies of my immunization records and insurance info because these were also slow at showing up.Get used to that! Good luck at CTOPS anf have fun!!

My orientation is also coming up very soon and I know that it is always difficult to get the classes that you would like at CTOPS because they open up so few seats. So I have all my classes in my shopping cart along with back up classes. Is it possible though to just check all the boxes at CTOPS and try to enroll in all the classes, backups and the one’s I want, even if they are at conflicting times? And then if I were to get into all of them drop the ones I do not want? Or should you just check the boxes by your first choices, click enroll, and if you don’t get them try your back ups?

I don’t think the computer will allow you to register for conflicting times or go over the limit for semester hours. Just check the boxes of your first choices, making sure you have waitlisted yourself for those classes also. Then go back to your shopping cart for subsequent tries to fill in the classes you have been blocked out of. Don’t forget that you can drop/add over the summer too. Mainly just try to get enough hours and then tweak the schedule later.

Put your ideal schedule in your shopping cart - put back up classes in your planner. It won’t allow you to enroll for more than 18 hours, I believe, or for conflicting classes, even on wait lists. Make sure you have some first year seminar choices - and try to make sure it meets a gen ed requirement as well.

When your session opens- hit enroll - you probably won’t get everything you want, so drag a class or two from your planner and try again.
