<p>I had originally planned to attend the June 15-16 session because I wanted to go ahead and register for classes, take my placement exams, get my laptop, etc. Basically, I just want to know what I'm going to be doing.</p>
<p>Anyway, I'm wondering what I would lose by waiting a month and going in July when AP scores are back and I will know which courses I will get credit for. July would also be more convenient for parents. </p>
<p>Is there an disadvantage to going later? </p>

<p>I ended up choosing June 16/17 though because a lot my friends told me that by July a lot of the classes are already filled up even though they try to reserve space.</p>

<p>It does not matter anymore, classes used to fill up but what they do now is hold open only a few classes per general college classes each session....Either way, you will not get exactly what you want....and you probably will do drop add. Its okay, Drop add opens up long enough before classes and you can access via your laptop from home. Remember OSS come to the last session and they still have classes....then everyone drops and adds and a lot of classes open up.</p>
<p>DO READ and PREPARE before you go to CTOPS.... KNOW what you did or MAY exempt....and get to know pick-a-prof :^).</p>

<p>Something on paper, see if you can get via fax. If you don't have a fax, get free efax number which will deliver to your email. You need to bring copies of all testing scores, SAT, AP, SAT II, CLEP whatever.</p>
<p>FREE EFAX--there are pay versions, efax.com products find the free stuff. you have to download their software to use.</p>
<p>Hmm...I'll have to see if they have some kind of faxing system. I'm sure collegeboard probably charges some insane amount to do it though.</p>
<p>you can print the scores off the college board site or bring the original. the school should have that on file but bring just in case.</p>
<p>As far as what you do:
meet people, learn about the campus, offerings, register, get those coveted laptops, set up said laptop, stay in a dorm, eat at the dining halls, go to the bookstore, preorder your books if you want, figure out your schedule, walk to franklin with new friends, shower in a dorm bathroom, listen and watch a lot of skits by your leaders. Your parents will be similarly entertained mostly separate from you.....you will also hear from professors on how to succeed the dos and don'ts of emailing professors (there is too casual).</p>

<p>Possibly. My D knew she would exempt Math 231 AND 232 and wanted to sign up for 233, but the SAT II would only allow 231 (highest it grants) so she had to sign up for 231 and drop into a 233 the week of classes. It worked out. There are plenty of OTHER classes you need and can take if you only need one science and think your exempted it, she is in the math field and wanted to continue. Its ok, it will work out. Let that be your mantra, let others panic.....stay the course....and you can get what you want.</p>
<p>altmom -- What did you mean by "OOS come to the last session"? I'm OOS and am signed up for June. Is there some stipulation I'm unaware of that we have to wait until August?</p>
<p>You do not have to wait until August. However, there is at least one advantage to attending the OOS session. You get to move into your dorm room early and avoid the madhouse a few days later. For those that live far away, it also avoids the necessity of making two trips to Chapel Hill.</p>
<p>For those of us planning to go to Carolina Kickoff, though, (formerly Freshman Camp), the site says we cannot schedule the final CTOPS because the dates coincide, so we must go earlier anyway. We will still be allowed to get into the dorms early, though (Aug. 13).</p>
