So, I'm pretty sure many of you guys here on CC have been to CTY before since many CTYers are also boarders.

Does CTY help with your application? I mentioned it on my Lawrenceville application but I don't remember mentioning it on my Andover one. I didn't emphasize it or anything. I did however talk about it to both of my interviewers.

I don’t think it helps that much, because many of the applicants could qualify for it if they wanted.

YES I GO TO CTY and I absolutely love it there. I think it helps if on one of the tests you score and get grand honors (97 percentile^)
is anyone going to cty this year?

I got that award thing from John’s Hopkins as well. I didn’t go to the ceremony

I didn’t go either. Baltimore is just too far away. if you don’t mind me asking, what sites have you been to?

Last year I went to Bristol, I’m probably going again this year. :)

I went to Carlisle session 2. Woop woop

I went to Saratoga

Bristol was the closest to where I live :P

AOs have all commented on dd’s summer experiences. I think they are interested in seeing how an applicant fared living away from home in a dormitory style situation.

The CTY camps have a solid reputation, but I won’t say that they are terribly prestigious. A large number of kids qualify to attend each year. The enrichment experience can also look very positive, if the applicant seems genuinely positive and enthused about the academic classes.

CTY was a great experience. I agree with the dorm situation. I think that CTY made me feel “prepared” to live at a boarding school. My mother never looks at my schoolwork anyway so I believe I’ll do fine on my own. The whole application process was all my doing. My parents just answered the parent short answers and paid the application fee.

Rareparadox, I’m glad that it was a good experience for you. Kudos to you for being the initiator on the application. That is truly refreshing to hear.
