Anyone been to this or thinking about applying to it? It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if it's worth the $3000...

i dunno about the leadership institude, but i went to a CTY summer program. its was a good experience socially, but i dunno if its worth 3,000 dollars. oine thing i can tell you, however, is it wont carry much weight with college admission officers if thats ur aim. i would suggest getting an interesting job, doing comm service.

i'm in CTY, but never went to the summer program. i even got as close as paying the first 900 bucks, but i didnt wanna go 2 hawaii to learn how to write....n pay $3000. i negotiated with them to get the 900 bucks back ;)
their distance program is awesome.

I went to CTY, the summer program, a really long time ago. It's been almost 5 years now, how weird. Paid slightly over $2000 way back then. It was a lot fun. I met a lot of great people and I was just going into 8th grade that summer so it was kind of like a sneak peak into college life, minus the alcohol and classes that matter.

I took a writing class, the basic personal narrative/intro to writing class, which was really interesting. I'll never forget my prof and TA. And they really did improve my writing. But the point of CTY isn't to learn, it's to socialize. It's a pre-high school college experience. Yeah, there are a TON of wicked geeky people and some really chill people and some pretty chill geeks. I wouldn't have had the experience of living in a dorm and next year (I'm a senior now), I'm not clueless about what it's like. Hall meetings, hanging in the quad, pizza runs, and no pressure classes, it's really pretend college for three weeks.

I know a lot of people who have gone every summer for years. They've made and kept in touch with their CTY friends for a really long time. I only went that one year because I have a lot of things to do during the summers. I only went that one year because I bombed at my skating competition (and still slightly bitter about it apparently lol). But it was a really good time. So apparently the price was jacked to $3000? It's summer camp. You go to make friends, potentially hook up, and live in dorm rooms for a few weeks. If you're looking to pad your resume, admissions people have seen thousands of lifetime CTY-ers, it's not new or special. But if you're looking to have a good time, and you have the money to spare, it's a lot of fun. I never went to traditional summer camp as a kid, it was my first time away from my parents for so long without relatives or friends. I'm glad I went and if I had the time, I would have gone again.

HALL MEETINGS! I remember those. evry night at 9 30. the only non realistic (relative to college experience)aspect was the we all had to be in bed at 10 30 except sundays we could at 11...

I went the summers before 8th and 9th grade.

my summer 2001 experience was great. did law and politics in US History at st. marys and LOVED it.

summer 2002 sucked since we were on lock down since some kid stole a ton of money and apparently had some switchblades too...that kinda ruined it for me.

Hmmm, after reading this, I'm actually considering applying to the MICA art institute summer camp thing now, haha.
