CU and the UN

Hey CC,

I was curious of the relationship of CU and the UN, more specifically on internships. A friend told me that CU gives you greater chance of interning with the UN as both are based in NYC, but I couldn’t find any info about it online, so I was curious if this was true.
Also, if there are internships given to CU students, I was wondering if only poly sci and other related majors generally take them or if a variety of majors are given the opportunity. I am going to major in Chemical Engineering in college, but would love to do work in the UN too (perhaps on one of their science committees) later in my career so I wanted to take up an internship.

Thanks!

One of the top reasons to go to Columbia over all other schools is being in New York, where basically every corporation is headquartered from finance to government to fashion to art to theater. You have every opportunity to do anything you want and the faculty are well connected.

While the first reply did not specifically address the question, as a current student, I would say it would be pretty hard to work at the UN, especially if you’re not majoring in a related field. I’ve heard about White House and financial internships (Goldman Sachs, etc) though. But I wouldn’t say it’s impossible and perhaps it has and can be done. It’s probably more likely to get an internship at a tech, fashion, or media outlet (I’ve heard of people at big networks, renown software firms, and well-known cosmetics companies as well). I just haven’t heard about anyone at the UN.

Thanks @moliss @ricck1!
It’s a shame UN internships for college isn’t really a thing; I was really looking forward to doing something for them during college since post-college I’d be too busy with chemical engineering things (I’m guessing atleast).
