Son applied to Boulder on Nov 15 Early Action using the common app. When he opened his portal everything is showing received on Nov 16. Does anyone know whether they use the date submitted or date received (listed on portal) to decide who they consider for early action? Also, assuming he is still being considered for early action, how long does it take boulder to make decisions (we are out of state).
I’d say don’t sweat it. I saw this happening on several portals, with several colleges. They give you a due date, say November 1. Then they wait for everyone to hit that deadline. Then, the next day (November 2), they go to the server and download all the stuff. That’s how you get the time stamp equal to the “deadline + one” instead of simply “the deadline”.
@Jtreehiker My daughter applied on 10/15 and her portal shows those materials received on 10/16 (including her SAT scores, which were sent even earlier). I’m pretty sure you are absolutely fine for Early Action. I think all EA decisions (in state or OOS) will be released 2/1/20.
Thanks, that is good to know. In one place on their website it says all EA applicants will hear back on 2/1. Then in another spot it says you’ll hear back by 2/1. Any insights into whether they might send notifications earlier than 2/1?
Actually I looked back to the thread from last year after seeing your post, and it looks like EA applicants were notified by mid-January! Posters thought it was so they were out before CU started evaluating RD applicants 1/15. So I’m hoping (and I think it’s possible) we could hear by 1/15 but wish it was even earlier!
I was looking at that post as well. I was hoping that decisions would trickle out sooner. Applied 9/18.
My daughter is a first year, she found out January 11 via email.
Do you guys think it makes sense for my daughter to send updated SAT scores, for the test taken December 7? They just came out. She applied early Action, OOS, with the SAT 1430. The new score is 1460, and it has also composition (which I know UC is not asking for, but other colleges did). We are sorta past the deadline for EA, but you never know when they actually read the applications…
I’d send it because it can’t hurt, might qualify her for a larger scholarship, and the engineering school is the toughest school to get into.
@ElenaParent congratulations on your daughter’s great scores. My oldest D graduated last year from CU (Mech Eng) and is currently completing her Masters there. Her experience has been amazing and we highly value the experiences she received.
I write to tell you to consider the BOLD scholarship. We found it not only a small scholarship, but my daughter got a lot out of it. As a BOLD leader, she helps other minority students by tutoring, encouragement, and just engagement. I think she got $2,500 per year and had to commit to about 10 hours per semester of events. Female is considered a minority.
IMHO, the 1430 to 1460 SAT will not change any scholarships I am aware of (see link below). We never filled out a FAFSA as we knew we would not qualify for aid. My D had several scholarships offered and accepted including the Sewell, Bold, and PLC. Mind you, she graduated HS in 2015 and things may have changed.

Good luck to your new Buff!
Hoping this is the week! Thought there would be more chatter on this page, Univ of Michigan has 93 pages worth on Early Action!
Last year it was the 11th of January so that’s what I’m hoping for. Haven’t heard anything from the admissions office though
Over the weekend my (OOS EA) son received an email that CU hadn’t received his mid year grades. Odd and troubling, as his school sent them on Dec 7th. Of course it being a weekend, there was no one to follow up with. He sent his regional rep an email and messaged his schoool counselor, but as of just now, it’s unclear what’ going on. So there’s that stress added to the waiting!
@l2kids - Hmmm… My son has definitely not sent mid-year grades (his first semester doesn’t even end until January 30th), but he did not receive any such email. Now I’m worried! Does your application portal have mid-year grades listed under the Application Checklist? My son’s does not.
Yes, there is now a red “x” next to mid-term grades. The whole line is new. There used to be nothing on the portal about mid-term grades (and no red x).
My D’s portal does not have a line item for mid-year grades. Was your son’s app submitted for EA?
I keep trying to post a screen shot but it won’t let me (please advise if you know how to do that on this forum). He did apply EA though there is no place on the portal that confirms that, unless I’m just not seeing it. On Common App it does says he applied EA, though.
Under Application Checkist there are green checks to the left of: test scores, transcript, recs, and writing supplement with submission dates (11/13) on the right. But now, in between letter of recommendation and writing supplement, it says mid-year grades and there is a red check on the left. Trying not to freak out but he didn’t hear back from CU Counselor.
My application portal says nothing about mid-year grades and I submitted EA. I’m OOS CT in case that changes anything
So is my son. I’m on hold w/ admissions now. They DO have his grades, and are now trying to figure it out.
I think decisions could be coming out this Friday… (OOS NY to be specific). My daughters friend had talked to admissions when he visited for Homecoming weekend (Dad is an alum) and they said decisions would likely come out on the 3rd or 10th. Any idea if they came out on a specific weekday in years past?
