CU Boulder or Syracuse University

Hey guys,

With May 1st just around the corner, I'm trying to decide on which school to go to. I've narrowed down my list between CU Boulder and Syracuse.

I'm thinking of dual majoring in Engineering and Business (probably Entrepreneurship). I got into Syracuse's college of engineering and am Pre-Engineering at Boulder (College of Arts & Sciences first year, guaranteed transfer into college of engineering after first year). I know both schools have strong programs in those fields, so at an academic point of view, I'm at a standstill.

I've visited both campuses and loved them and the surrounding areas. I really like the small city/town feel even though I'm from NYC. The people at both campuses are very friendly and both schools have that "family" feel. I already have someone to room with at Syracuse and 1 or 2 of my friends are going to Boulder, so I won't necessarily be alone.

Only comparison between the two I have are from US News. Syracuse ranks higher in its business program (#38 vs #43) and as a National University(#62 vs #86), while Boulder ranks a great deal higher for its engineering program (#32 vs #65). I know rankings and academics aren't the only things that should be considered. (I was accepted to Purdue University, which is academically better than both, but I wasn't a fan of the school).

Both schools will cost me about the same, Syracuse may be just a few thousand cheaper, but that really isn't an issue. Being away from home isn't a problem either

Syracuse seems like the safer choice but I really think I'd enjoy attending CU Boulder. I was also thinking of just going to Boulder for my first year, seeing if I like it and if not, transferring to SU.

So if you guys were in my shoes, which school would you pick? What are your opinions on both schools?

Both are good schools and you cannot go wrong. One thing we noticed about Syracuse on our tours is that a lot of students are pursuing multiple interests, i.e. dual majors, majors with two minors, and even a few triple majors or duals with a minor or two. DD will be a dual at Whitman and Newhouse this fall. I believe it is something about the students Syracuse attracts and the fact that Cuse encourages study across disciplines. Good luck with your decision.

I noticed that as well, my sister and I were at an admitted students info session just the other day and they mentioned dual majors before they said anything about regular majors.

Anyone have info on both schools engineering programs? Anyone have experience with them? For instance, I know for Aerospace Engineering (interested in), Boulder would be the better choice, but how bout something like Mechanical or Civil?
