I was recently admitted to both universities OOS and won significant merit scholarships for both…but since the money is not restricting, which college would be a better option? I like how both universities have great access to the mountains, and how it is easy to major in the subject/subjects desired, which are economics and possibly mathematics. However, is the social scene at Utah less like the stereotypical college experience due to the commuter status, and is weed the main aspect of the social scene at Boulder? I am interested in parties, although education is my first priority, so what are the pros and cons of each university?
Check out the GPA requirements to keep the scholarships for both universities.
There has been weed in Boulder for decades. It is no more legal for most college kids now than it was in the 70’s. It you want it it is there.
GPA reqs for keeping good scholarships at U of Utah is onerous, if you have a challenging major, make sure you know how to apply for instate status should you lose the $$. I would love to see stats for how many U of U kids lose their 3.6 GPA required scholarships. IMO it is a bit of bait and switch really, not an issue for instate as tuition is cheap, but if you are locked out of instate rates as a result of a specific scholarship, it might mean some pain.
In Colorado, more “old” people (50+) smoke pot than college kids.
I went to a party the other night, lots of professional types, lawyers, doctors, even a local politician - that kind of crowd, and I heard the 30-year old daughter of the host exclaim, “OMG Dad, are you high again?”
May I ask how generous is the scholarship for the UC Boulder (OOS)? My son removed it from his list because he heard that they don’t give much to the OOS.
