CU Boulder vs UT Austin

Hi, I am a high school senior from Texas. I was recently admitted to UT Austin (not auto admin) and CU Boulder. These were my top two choices that I now have to choose between. I am majoring in environmental science/geology in both schools. I was wondering how the college life is in both schools and if anyone could help me make my decision to which school I would like. I take my studies very seriously but also like to have fun sometimes and go out with friends. I like UT because it is closer to home, but Boulder is a change for me and sounds exciting. Please let me know if you have any opinions on either school. Also does anyone know if there is a way to shadow students? I would be interested in shadowing at both schools to see how student life is for a weekend. Thank you!!!

Texas has a much better reputation overall, IMO. I’m not at all familiar with your major, though.

UT is considered a better school generally. However, Boulder has a large scientific community in Earth sciences, especially atmospheric sciences. I think you can certainly have a lot of fun at both schools. Weed is legal in CO but hopefully it’s not your idea of fun. Also CU is expensive for OOS students. If UT is significantly cheaper, I think you should go there.

CU is tops in environmental fields and geology. Go where there are rocks if you want to study rocks.

Austin has a much better music/club scene than Boulder. As far as fun and friends go, I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun and lots of friends at either school. Yes, I’m sure you can arrange an overnight visit at either school.

@januarygirl123 I recommend that you search student vlogs on Youtube for both schools.

My impression is that it would be easier to transfer from UT-Austin to CU-Boulder then it would be to do the opposite.
Nevertheless, CU-Boulder is the better choice for your major & it would be an exciting change of scenery. Visit both, then decide.

Environmental Science/Geology it’s CU by a good margin. I believe that both have admitted students days although I’m not sure how much shadowing you can do.
