I am deciding between UVM and CU Boulder, and I know a lot of people decide between these two schools. I am leaning towards UVM now, but I was wondering if anyone else has any input on deciding between these two schools!
What do you want to major in?
Vermont and Colorado both offer skiing, but Colorado has weather thats a lot sunnier and maybe a bit more to do, given that you can go to Denver and enjoy Boulder. With that Burlington VT is a wonderful city, and you can hike the entire Adirondack Park for four years and not see all of it, across Lake Champlain in New York State. The Green Mountains of Vermont are also accessible as is some of the best east coast skiing at Sugerbush, and Killington and other resorts in Vermont. The Adirondacks are one of the the USAs great wildernesses and very accessible from UVM. I love New England and Colorado both, they are different in the types of wilderness, one being beautiful deciduous eastern forest, and gentle hills and mountains, the other being the Rocky Mountains, which have grand beauty, are treeless largely up to 6000 feet then Ponderosa Pine, then subalpine fir, and really almost no deciduous trees at all, but also offer amazing wilderness, wildflowers, snowshoeing, biking, skiing, all accessible right from the Boulder campus. Boulder County has purchased fully half the land in our county, and much of it is open to the public although we have large areas of agricultural land set aside here too. Yet nothing beats the Vermont fall colors and fall weather in my mind!
Boulder has a lot to do, including every sort of going out opportunity, including top classical music venues such as the Boulder Chatauqua, and the music and theatre department is A+ if you like dance, theatre or music. Boulder has both a religious and exercise focus. So world class runners and bikers flock to Boulder for events that now occur all over the area. Buddhists come to Boulder as there are various religiously focused programs here, such as Naropa, and the Buddhist center.
Both schools have pluses and minuses academically, so depending on what you want to study, that might point you to Vermont or Boulder.
I want to study biology and/or political science. Based off of everything I’ve read, they are pretty academically equal in those two fields. Thanks for your response!!
The University of Colorado is superior in almost every regard. The students at CU are motivated and very friendly. Moreover, the political science department here is great! Our professors are exceptional and truly care about the students. Many of the best professors from around the country chose Boulder because it is a place they can see themselves retiring. Most of my teachers are from Ivy’s. As such, there is a lot of networking benefits. If you are serious about CU, please reach out to me further. We would love to have you!
SKO BUFFS!
