@ Falcon Accepted RD?

I was accepted to the School of Arts & Sciences with a $9,000 scholarship!

Update:

Accepted:

3.88 uw
1910 SAT

$18,000 annual scholarship

D accepted with $16,000 merit.

Those of you who don’t have great GPAs or test scores, take note:
3.26 uw; 3.35 w
Bottom, yes I said bottom 10th of class (very high-achieving, competitive private school)
V 680 W 610 M 510
Very good ECs – not a lot of different things but many many years devoted to each and a high level of excellence in them.
Very good essays that, I am proud to say, were 100% written by her. Other than writing checks, I had no involvement with her applications.
No idea what her recommendations were like.

I doubt we’ll be able to swing going there, though – she would have needed about twice that much aid (we probably won’t qualify for need-based aid)

D1 accepted into Honors Program with $19,000 scholarship. Considering the dual engineering/architecture program. top 5% of class, can’t recall SATs but ranged from 610-680, 29 ACT composite, 11 varsity letters, 2 sport captain, 3 sport all-star

Bennie, could you give more info. D1 received 14,000 arch, 3,000 parish and 1,000 alumni. ACT-29, retake 31, SAT M-700, R-690, W-680. Top 5% competitive Public HS, Varsity soccer- 4yrs, Student Govt officer -4 yrs, School plays 4 yrs, etc…was told by school that 18,000 was max merit package ( except for 4/5 full scholarships). Confused about $19,000.

The scholarship was not defined as a parish or archdiocese scholarship. I don’t recall there being any specific designation but I don’t have the paperwork in front of me.

Son got accepted
NY Resident
ACT 28
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: African American

Any info as to when transfer students are notified?

My D was just wait listed and she is really disappointed. Stats are great: 35 ACT/ Rank 1/324/ GPA 4.0/4.52w , Nat. Merit Finalist, 13 AP’s, Great Com service and recs, very devoted Catholic, very active in parish hand bell choir, vacation bible school and Catholic charities. Strong essay she worked hard on. Accepted at Dartmouth, Tulane, UVA. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. She really is very surprised she wasn’t accepted. Very faith filled young lady.

mommidwest----With those stats, all I can think of is that they have filled all of their spots for now. Did she apply late? My D does not have GPA, rank, or scores that high and applied EA was accepted and offered $14K merit and $3K parish scholarships. Definitely learned a lesson with this child (our 1st) to remember when our 2nd starts applying–Early Actioin applicants seem to get a much better chance at acceptance and merit $.

Yes, she did apply on the later side maybe late December. First child and the process was somewhat overwhelming. She called the admissions office and they told her they wanted to know why she wanted to go there and to write a letter stating her reasons. Seems strange to me. If she didn’t want to go there why would she apply and pay an application fee? Also she clearly stated that a faith based education was important and that she is Roman Catholic on her application. Oh well, I just hope it’s not too late for scholarships. With the next child we’ll be earlier.

Yes, my oldest who is a senior, says it’s ‘not fair’ that she’s the guinea pig with everything. In this case, we did not know the importance of Early Applications…luckily she did apply early to 3 of her schools, but the rest were all RD, which is making for a LONG winter, waiting for acceptances, merit awards AND financial aid packages. It does seem odd that they are requesting a letter. Good luck to your daughter–if it’s her first choice school, I hope her letter gets her in!

Mommidwest, my stats are very similar to your D’s and I was accepted EA at CUA. Also, invited into the Honors Program. I too was surprised at a deferred decision during EA from Hillsdale College(esp. after getting into Notre Dame). This process does not make any sense sometimes!

There should be a spot on the CUA’s waitlist opening up. I just sent in my form to decline their offer of admission and invite to the Honors Program. I hope your daughter gets my spot!! Good luck.
