Cumulative G.P.A?

For transfer students across the board, do they factor in external classes into your cumulative g.p.a and then use that as the calculation? i.e. supposing one took a class that didnt necessarily transfer for credit, but brought down the cumulative gpa, would they include that in the application? or would they only calculate the GPA of the courses taken for transferability of credit? Likewise, would classes taken outside of the normal transferability recognition taken to increase GPA be recognized?

(very confused. req. asap response from someone who knows plz?)

I am curious about this as well. Will they take into account all classes taken whether for credit or not? (Transferrable or not.)

BUMPreaallllyy important that i get this information asap

non transferable grades are looked at but they are not part of your gpa that would qualify you for admissions and stuff like that. so lets say you had a few A's in some non transferable classes, and you have a 3.5 but 3.6 is what you need to get into a school, those 2 A's will not boost it

wait, so courses that cannot be transfered are not counted in the GPA they recognize for admissions purposes?

What if I took 6 courses last year and 3 of them cant transfer?....that means they will judge me based on performance in only 3 courses???

Also, will a course like this transfer:

Religous Studies 161: Contemporary problems with religion

If the class is not transferable it won't transfer. If you took 6 courses and only 3 of them transfer then yes, you'll only be judged on three of those courses.

so i could take 4 courses that i know wont transfer, do well in the fifth (4.0) and have a stellar chance at the top uni's because of my 4.0?

If the class is not transferrable, not only will the grade not count, but the UNITS gained in the class won't count either.

So if you're in a semester system needing 60 units to transfer, and you have 70 units completed but only 50 are transferrable, you're still 10 units short.

All courses whther they transfer or not will go into your transfer gpa everything counts (as far as gpa) but not everything transfers. Read the school your interested in policy.

im getting really mixed responses here..

yeah im quite confused now

i believe everything counts in ure transfer gpa because otherwise, uni's dont have enough to judge you (this is purely based on common sense)...but im not familair with units etc (im canadian).

only classes that transfer are counted in your transfer gpa

The fact that they calculate your GPA only by transferable courses doesn't really make sense, because they evaluate your courses only after you get accepted.

If you are at a CCC you'll for example have 3 listed GPA's. You've got a CC GPA which includes all courses, a CSU GPA which is what your transferable GPA to a CSU would be, and finally you'll have a UC GPA, which is what your transferable GPA to a UC is. I wanted to go to a UC, so whenever I was asked my GPA was a 3.92. My CC GPA however was down at a 3.74 (I got a C in a 5 unit Math class which did not transder). However UCLA saw my GPA as being the 3.92, since that math class was not transferable.

thats also a very solid point NJ but as I have little information on the subject, im getting a little worried that there is such a large disparity of answers from the ppl here.

anyone else?

allena is right... i recieved a D in intermidiate algebra ( does not transfer) when UC looks at my gpa that D will not be counted.... so my gpa will stay 3.63, even though my cc gpa is like a 3.48

thanks guys, that's a big help. does anyone know about privates now?

It depends. Generally speaking any class under the 100 level won't transfer, however you should check with the specific school to see what they will and will not accept as far as units.

Yeah seriously...get on the ball.

Most ccc catalogs list right with the class whether it is transferable to uc, csu or both.

A college I'm planning on attending states they start you on a fresh gpa. However, when I apply for a job, don't they just ask for your cumulative gpa when I got my bachelor's or the grade that is listed on my degree?
