Cumulative GPA?

Hello all:

So I recently graduated with my Bachelor's from a UC. I was a transfer student though, and I was wondering if it's allowable for me to include the classes from community college when I calculate my cumulative GPA for job applications/my resume. Basically my GPA is lower than I would like when it's calculated from the UC I went to (only harder upper-div classes, naturally), and I'm wondering if it's bad form to include the 2 years of my life at community college in my cumulative GPA? Technically they are part of my undergrad...but for some reason I feel guilty doing so? I really could use the boost though.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it.

I’m pretty sure you should only be listing your official GPA from the institution your degree is from.

I’m not saying “you shouldn’t,” but I am saying it would be a little unusual. Would be weird to submit a transcript (if requested by an employer) that has a different GPA. You could explain, but it would still be weird.

Your resume can include all schools attended, so if you have space you could include the CC and GPA there, and then the Uni and GPA from there. I would not average them together to “create” a new cumulative GPA that is not recognized at the university you graduated from.

Unless specifically asked for, just don’t put your GPA on your resume. It is not necessary for many majors or careers. Even online applications that ask for it usually do not require that you enter a GPA, so skip over it. And if it is required, then put the accurate GPA from the school affiliated with it.

^ Going off what NovaLynnx said, I’ve separated my “Education” section into the two schools I’ve attended. I also included the cumulative GPA for each individual institution.

I would say to keep your GPA for about a year or two, or maybe more. I’m still in college with only entry-level work experience, and have had a few employers comment on how I must be a really hard worker by looking at my GPA. If this is true in your case (also minimal work experience), I’d probably include it if it doesn’t take up necessary space.
