CUNY Honors College

let me just bump this thread up!

hmm i have three questions: 1.)Are SAT IIs necessary for CUNY honors? The thing is that I took two SAT IIs...i didnt score "great" on them, but not too horrible either. Will they hurt my chances of being accepted? 2.)Will applying ED increase my chances of getting in? 3.) If you can apply to one one school for the honors program, how do I know which to apply to? I know Barauch is the toughest to get in. But lets say you apply to CUNY honors at Baruch and got rejected, but would have gotten accepted if you applied to, lets say, Hunters instead? How do you know which school to apply to?

Im not sure about the SATIIs. I know that you have to send your score report from college board, so they will see your scores no matter what.

Applying ED may up your chances if you have very competitive stats. Usually, there is a smaller applicant pool for ED, so you will be competing with a smaller group of students. You will also be showing your interest in the school, which always helps.

There are different rates of difficulty for acceptance. I believe Hunter had the most applicants this year. Hunter is popular because they provide a dorm for Honors students. Baruch is very competitive just because they are well known in business recruiting and offer access to great programs and academics. Each CUNY program has its own perks, so you really have to evaluate which school is for you. Don't opt for a less competitive program just to get into the Honors College--my friend apply to Queens instead of Hunter b/c Queens has a higher acceptance rate. Later, she realized she probably could have gotten into Hunter and regretted her decision. Find the school that fits your needs. I believe Hunter and Baruch are more competitive, where Lehman and Queens are less competitive. I'm not sure of the other schools. The Honors College brochure lists the average SATs and GPA for the accpeted students. Checking this out will allow you to gage where you have the best chances.

Best of Luck!

Anyone feel like chancing me for Macaulay at Hunter?

Gender: F
Location: NY
High School: Public

6 AP classes taken by time of graduation, 4 senior, 1 sophomore and 1 junior
(school offers about 10)
All other classes were honors or college level (credits offered by LIU)

GPA - Unweighted: 3.6
GPA - Weighted: 4.215
Class Rank: top 10%
Class Size: 401

Scores (my first try, I have a study plan for the summer and plan on getting at least 700 on M & CR in October):
SAT I Math: 610
SAT I Critical Reading: 620
SAT I Writing: 610

Also taking ACT in September (again, I have a study plan for the summer worked out)

Significant Extracurriculars:
National Art Honor Society, National French Honor Society, Art Club, I teach mini French lessons to kids at the middle school (I'm very involved w/ French at my school but it's not considered a club or anything)

Volunteer/Service Work:
2 different animal shelters for 200+ hours (one since January 07, the other I just started this summer)

Honors and Awards:
2007 Regional #11 National French Contest
2008 Regional #14 National French Contest

College level work:
2 classes from LIU offered at my high school, 3 credits each
Young Scholars Program @ SUNY Stony Brook (enrolled in one college class at night starting in September)

Recommendations:
One from my French teacher which should be very good (I do A LOT w/ French at my school, plus the teacher knows I overcame depression in my junior year) and the other one from my English teacher (doesn't know me like my French teacher but still should be a good rec)

of course you can get into NYU, are you joking

Hey guys!
Currently, my top choice for college is the CUNY Macaulay Honors College at either Hunter, Baruch, Brooklyn, or Queens. But I don't know which one I have the best chance at, or which one has the best English program. Is anyone willing to chance me at the above programs?

My stats can be found here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/589883-chances-all-nyc-colleges.html

Yes. I got in !!!

I got rejected from Macaulay Hunter but even though I got rejected, I am very grateful to receive a community scholarship award which gives me a full ride & a laptop.
SATs
500 on reading
670 on math
550 on writing.
My SATs werent good at all, but my gpa was decent. I had a 3.7gpa.

So for those who think they dont have a chance because they dont have the SAT scores for Macaulay, still apply because you may not know what you’ll get! My sister actually discouraged me, and told me that I wouldnt get anything but general admission, but I proved her wrong! :)

And for those who are curious of how I got the community Scholarship Award, these are only some achievements I boasted about. I had
-the title “Magna Cum Laude” on National Latin Exam
-Perfect Attendance (doubt that matters lol)
-2 AP Classes (Latin, and BC Calc)
-Swim Team
-Chess Club
-Arista, an honor program.
-200 hours of volunteer work at a hospital.
-Service for a teacher
-Tutoring

What’s up fellas,

I’m currently in Macaulay Honors at Brooklyn College. My question is, do Law Schools know what Macaulay is, or will they see just another applicant from Brooklyn College?

P.S. No disrespect to anyone currently attending or has graduated from Brooklyn College.

Hey guys… I applied early to Hunter Macaulay Honors and I got accepted… Weee… so happy!!!.. I wish the best of luck to all of you guys… The waiting period was so stressful

^ if you go to city college honors for your freshman year can you transfer to hunter? i’m considering pre-med btw.

no… I dont think they do interviews… they just look at your application … and thats it…

An admissions counselor called my school today to verify something in my file and mentioned that I could expect a “positive response.” Is it a tad too early to express glee?

Shameless bump #1!

Where do you attend? And to what school did you apply?

sooo letters should be coming soon? I really can’t wait any longer…

@artnyc: I feel the same way. I was so pumped for the 15th, and then found out that no mail would be coming in. The horrors of waiting encroach upon my dreams every night.
