i want to go to baruch honors as I probably cannot get into nyu and such.. since I go to stuyvesant, they take lower gpas for my school.
My "Stats"
Sat I: (1st Time)- 720 math 680 Reading 660 Writing
about to take 2nd time in october
Sat II: 750 Chem 740 math iic (gonna take math ic and iic in november)
Aps: Ap Chem -4, taking ap bc cal and stat this year
not very much extracurricular..

also I am kind of confused about baruch honors, is there a dorm or not and if there is is it free or not..

baruch and hunter are the two most selective schools. i guess theyll probably actually start reading those essays since so many ppl are applying.

Eww why Hunter?
1. Hunter's really good for Pre-Med (i.e. linkage program, research connections, etc)
2. Facilities - CDS (Career helping stuff), they really take care of you if you're Pre-Med, and other options you don't get in most colleges
3. Dorms
4. Diversity, both academically and population-wise
I'll think of more.
They didn't put up the application yet.
Biggyboy - I've read through most of your posts...You seem definitive on most things...Why not me?

PS - more stuff to add:
Captian of Cross Country team
VP of Gay Straight Alliance
Taking/taken hardest possible courses except Calc BC
100+ Volunteering hours before Early anddd yeah. that's it.

lol hunter pretty much has the dorms for free which is why it became more popular. but have you ever seen the actual school? not a pretty site. but i think you have a shot. i don't want to say that itll be a definite yes because thereve been plenty of baruch applicants who haven't been admitted but have ended up at places most people would consider "better," or maybe just more selective, in general. good luck to you though.

I've seen the school...and the thing is, it reminds me of Stuy. I go to a Long Island school that's only one floor, and I remember being envious of my friends who went to Stuy. I've visited Hunter and just from being inside the buildings made think "I want to go here". It only strengthened my decision. That and I've listed that I'm doing Hunter for the Pre-Med part - that's their biggest thing. Like better than the dorms.
Yeah - that's the thing. I've heard of Honors applicants who got rejected but got accepted into Cornell, Emory, and other places.
I'm going to apply to the Baruch Honors Scholars program...can you give more insight into that please? I mean, what's it about, the perks, the stuff it's beneficial for (I know Baruch is more business than anything else), etc.
Thanks!

lol but stuy and hunter don't look anything alike. hunter is a very old and damp-looking building[s]. baruch honors is basically the same as baruch through the macaulay honors college but you aren't required to minor in 'interdisciplinary studies of new york city with honors' and you don't travel to all the common events with the other cuny campuses. i do know that baruch has a very good liberal arts department in addition its business classes. the biology department is pretty nifty too, i had the chair of the premed society as one of my professors so i speak from experience.

wait so if I want to go to baruch what do you suggest, living at home or living at student housing.. and im also wondering, is the student housing free or is the stipend they give you enough to cover it?

Well, I will definitely apply to Baruch Honors as well then. Thanks for the advice. But I also feel like it's filled with Indians/South Asians...Ehh. I'll deal.
I didn't know that I'll be coming out with a minor in "Interdisciplinary Studies of New York City with Honors..." After only taking four seminars?
The Macaulay College doesn't have any dorms except for Hunter. The stipend they give you (from what I've researched) is $1000 a year. Um...not enough to pay for housing anywhere in New York. You'd have to commute.

baruch? not really. the majority of the student body is still white/caucasian. but there are plenty of asians in the school (chinese/korean mostly). there really isn't one group that 'dominates'...it really is the most diverse college in the u.s.

I think you have to file a separate application because it's a different program. You're automatically considered for Baruch regular though.
Isn't Hunter more diverse than Baruch?

no you don't need to file a separate applications. if you are not admitted to macaulay honors baruch, you are automatically considered for baruch scholars. and according to the princeton review, baruch has been the most diverse college campus for a few years now. but hunter must be pretty close.

wow that's awesome. the standards for baruch honors are not as high as Macaulay Honors right?

My Stats
SAT: 1800s, but i'm taking it two more times. (i think i can get a 2000, will i get in to either?)
GPA: 94
SAT II: 710/740
400 community service hours
