This is exciting, haha. Definitely considering attending Baruch, but still waiting on other decisions.

Cool congrats again, which other schools are you waiting for?

I'm waiting on like 7 more schools. Among those, Brown, Columbia, and uChicago are my top choices.

congrats... I got into MaCaular at Hunter

hey i got accepted into Baruch College Honors Program! However i need some clariffication. What's the difference between Baruch College Honors Program and the Macaulay Honors Program?

Hi! I was notified of acceptance yesterday as well, to Hunter's campus. Of course I was very excited, but thinking about it more has made me extremely confused. There aren't too many details regarding CUNY honors admissions...how many apply, how many are accepted? I know that this shouldn't really impact my decision, but I'm still curious about the "prestige." I have a 99.8 GPA and 780m/740cr/800w SATs...and have applied to a number of top private schools. The honors program has amazing benefits, and I would love to be able to dorm in Manhattan rent-free. I'm confused though, because my top choices are mostly small, private LACs...I love the financial situation of CUNY honors, but I would hate for my socioeconomic background to influence my college choice so strongly...I've been in "honors" programs thoughout my entire education, and though I've enjoyed the perks, I've had to contend with isolation from the mainstream student body...and sometimes some resentment. If there are any CUNY honors students on the board, I would truly appreciate a response to any of these questions:

How are the general, non-honors courses?

How is the community at Hunter?

Do you know how many apply/are accepted?

Are there many students from outside NYC, outside the state, country?

What other schools did you consider, and are you satisfied with your choice?

Of course I'm thrilled by the acceptance, but I'm kind of stuck in that brand-name school mindset (unfortunately). Any comments on this would be extremely helpful =)

was Hunter really competitive?
and they said my application was still incomplete
im so confused

Who else got waitlisted?

Ah, I'm sorry to hear you got waitlisted, Perfectedxchaos. Hunter (afaik) is the most competitive of the CUNY schools in the Honors college.

AFAIK? I can't figure that one out.

It really hurt at first, but I'm starting to get over it. I'm sending the card back saying I would like to stay on the waiting list, and I'll visit it sometime over break I hope. That's all I can really do at this point.

Afaik = as far as I know. It's one of the more esoteric acronyms, apparently. Best of luck to you! I hope you get in.

My son applied to CUNY honors at Hunter. He got his letter today- -it came in an envelope with the words Congratulations in big purple print above the address window. I called him up on his cell phone and told him he was probably in. When he got home from school and opened it, it said he was rejected from Macaulay Honors--but had a full scholarship for regular Hunter. Big deal! Why the hell with they put his letter in a "Congratulations envelope." Perfected--Did your waiting list letter come in a "Congratulations" envelope?

Hey i've been admitted into Baruch Honors College. Is that just regular Baruch? I cannot find any information about BHC and MHC

reggie - Yeah! I had the same envelope. Only I didn't get a full scholarship to regular Hunter. I just got $1,000 with an invite for honors? or something like that.

Duper - OH I SEE. That makes sense.

But I filled out the stupid card that said I was waitlisted, so that they'll still consider me shall they need to fill up more spots. But I still don't know if I'd go there over Binghamton (which I got into in December...).

Anyone else get waitlisted?

Sister got in to CUNY Honors at Hunter! If she decides not to go hopefully one of u will come off the wait list. Good Luck!

I called today and found out waitlisted applicants won't know if there's a spot available until May.

Great to keep the stress at bay. Oh yes.

Hi, I recently got into macaulay honors at hunter.

For prospective students of the macaulay honors college I'd have to say, based on personal experience, the admissions office looks for 2 main things:

High SAT scores; and by this i mean at least a 2000 to have a chance, and you should have over 2100 if you want a decent shot at the college. I know my scores were definitely the main reason I got accepted because my grades and class rank were pretty average. It seems Macaulay really wants to boost its test scores up to better its reputation more.

ECs; I was very active in my school and was president of 2 clubs. Macaulay really wants students who will be future leaders or "movers and shakers" of society or what not.

I mainly basing this on how I got accepted and not anyone else so don't give too much merit to it because I heard there have been times when their admissions were a bit "strange". But then again, doesn't every top college or university have that tendency?

Also does anyone know if hunter has a good history, philosophy, or religious studies program?
