CUNY Hunter academics?

I'm currently attending a SUNY school as a freshman English major, and I am looking to transfer next fall. I am considering some CUNY schools, mainly Hunter College. Basically I am having some trouble finding a college that is academically impressive (by this I mean, great class selections, great professors, etc.), but also affordable. I love to learn, and I am finding that not many students at my current school feel the same way. I am just looking for a college with great academics but an affordable price. (And I'm kind of afraid that it doesn't exist). Does anyone know anything about academics at the CUNY schools? Or maybe there are some schools like them that I haven't considered? Thanks!

I have a daughter at CUNY Brooklyn. My older daughter graduated from Colgate. I graduated from SUNY Utica/Rome.

YDD has been sufficiently challenged in her Macaulay Honors classes, whereas her non-honors English has not been challenging to her at all. But that is her experience.

In the case of my YDD, she would not be happy in the CUNY system without Macaulay. If it weren’t for her insistence in being in a BFA Theater program, she would probably be somewhere like Colgate.

BTW, all Macaulay students also get housing included free @ Hunter in addition to the free tuition for all seven Macaulay CUNY campuses.
