Anyone hear back from Hunter for fall 2018 admission?
I applied first week of December, randomly checked my portal February 8th and saw “decision has been made.” Afterwards, I called the hotline and Hunter was the college who made the decision. Not sure how accurate that is, so i tried the hunter mychoice forgot password trick, and was given a username with my last name… Odds of getting in are looking good, but still anxious for the actual acceptance letter. Anyone familiar with how hunter transfer admission letters work?
Hey, I applied as a transfer with Hunter as my first choice, and the hotline says I’ll be hearing from Hunter within two weeks. I applied on October 6th. If it says Hunter on the hotline then that’s the college you got into. I’ve yet to receive an acceptance letter though.
I did the forgot password trick for mychoice and I have an account there, but it then says “Oops! I didn’t do that…” and says the page is for admitted students only, so idk if that trick really works.
Yeah, I got that saying too. I just find it odd how it has your information on profile like you were admitted but then it doesn’t entirely let you through. Also, my friends hotline had said hunter college last semester and a few weeks later she received an acceptance letter. But you never know. I don’t know what’s taking so long…
Well, like I said in another thread, I’ve done the whole transfer thing before (when I was working on my first degree). In 2013 I didn’t get my acceptance email until March 4th, so we could be waiting another couple of weeks, maybe more. I can’t remember exactly when I got the actual letter in the mail. We’ll see.
As for the mychoice thing, it probably won’t let you completely through until they officially send out acceptances instead of us just hearing it over the hotline.
Transfer process was relatively easy. I applied for Fall 2013 while I was only a few weeks into my Freshman year at York, so they only looked at my HS transcript + my first semester at York (if you have under 30 credits when they’re reviewing your application, they also look at your HS grades since they need more to go on). I got a 3.76 for Fall 2012 so I got into my first choice, CCNY. I had 31 credits by the time I finished my first year at York but there was a 3 credit class that didn’t transfer, a 3 credit class that they took as elective credits, and a 4 credit class that that counted as only 3 credits in CCNY. So I lost a total 4 credits, maybe 7 if you’re someone who believes elective credits are useless.
Once I got the acceptance, everything was simple, I let York College know I wasn’t coming back, got invited to a campus tour in June and that’s all I remember. Now going to Hunter to get my Computer Science degree. Thankfully I have most of my math done so I need a total of 17 or 18 classes to complete the degree.
What are you planning on studying in Hunter? Which college are you transferring from?
Wow, not bad. I’ve heard terrible stories about transferring, I guess it depends on the school. I’m anxious about the transfer of credits. I’m at City Tech currently for Human Services and plan on transferring to Hunter for Psychology.
Nah, transferring isn’t that bad, it’s probably a lot worse if you’re transferring from outside the CUNY system though. Very easy transferring between CUNYs.
Yeah I can see why you would want to leave City Tech. Not the best school. But I really hope you’re planning on getting a Master’s after you’re done; my first Bachelor’s was in Psychology and finding a job with it has been impossible. I was also surrounded by a lot of mentally ill folk for some time last year as part of a little project I did, and working in that field takes A LOT of patience and people skills. Definitely wasn’t for me.
I can access the my choice but it does not let me all the way through. Does that mean I’ve been accepted or does everyone who applies have that ability?
Yeah, City Tech is the worst. A very unorganized school, had no help and this is my second year. I’ve done everything on my own with no type of guidance. I don’t even want to bother them when it’s time to transfer, my friend had to get a transfer approved by them.
I’m actually going to go for my doctorate! So yes, the masters will be next after this bachelor degree. I love psychology, it really sucks that it wasn’t for you. Definitely takes a lot of patience.
@gee9821 yeah, I have so much respect for people who can thrive in the field. It definitely needs more people who are passionate about helping others. But Hunter is great for Psych, hope you like it there better!
UGHHH the suspense is killing me. I heard that the process is two steps, first CUNY has to accept you based on requirements and then the school decides. Seems a little ridiculous though since Hunter wont’t read essays from transfers (I sent one and called to make sure they received it an they flat out said they dont read them!!)
@compsci1412 Thanks! I’ve heard their psych program is one of the best, so I’m excited. I hope you do well in Hunter, too! Enjoy studying computer science!
@y2kate That is exactly true. I’m living proof they have an actual two-step system. Last semester I tried to transfer for spring, and my application was stuck on “under review” for months! I called concerned because my friend applied as a transfer a month after me and she was getting updated portals and emails from hunter etc. CUNY told me everything was fine, then right before the spring semester began I got an email to resubmit but to two different CUNY schools. Again, no admission anywhere. My gpa wasn’t great but it was good, 3.0 at the time. I called the colleges that didn’t admit me and asked why, they said my application didn’t exist! So lastly, I emailed CUNY and they said it was because I didn’t fulfill the transfer requirements. (I was missing a credit bearing math class.) Finally took the math and my transfer application went through successfully.
That is so weird! Did you submit ACT or SAT scores? It seems like the website says that ACT/SAT scores can be used in place of a math college credit to determine readiness. I am applying from an art school and did not take any math credits so I was definitely concerned about that!!! Although honestly everything seems sort of random, doesnt look like the most organized system.
No I didn’t bother sending them, but they do have my high school transcript on file. Has your CUNY portal updated? And if your SAT/ACT score is high in math you don’t need to worry because they do look at that.
