CUNY's - Good or Bad?

Hi CC! I am looking into the Macaulay Honors College at City College. I think the deal for it sounds great, but is it worth it? I've heard some really bad things about CUNY's and I am wondering if it is true. Also, is the honors college hard to get into? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Are you a resident of New York State? Macaulay scholarship has been reduced and now only covers in-state tuition. The selectivity for Macaulay Honors is about 20%, with average stats 3.8 GPA and 1405 SAT.

Quality of CUNYs varies, but they are all probably in the range of middling public. City College is probably one of the less well-regarded. Hunter, Baruch, and Queens are probably the best-regarded of the CUNYs.

So the Honors College is only available to in-state kids? And if it isn’t, is acceptance rates to the program different for each school?

The reason why I’m looking at City College is because it has a pre-pharmacy program. I don’t think the other ones do. I’ll just be there for 2 years, so the fact that it’s not the best doesn’t bother me. But I’ve heard that it’s like a high school and that there really arent high standards for acceptance to CUNYs. That’s more what I’m worried about.

I have a 3.5 gpa but I did get a 1920 on my sats. I’m hoping that will make up for the gpa.

You can get into the Honors College and get some of the benefits from out-of-state, you just don’t get the tuition.

You don’t need to major in pre-pharamacy to get into pharmacy school, you just need to take all the required courses for the program(s) you are going to apply to.

All the Honors programs at the CUNYs offer a great education, they are one of the great bargains in higher level education in the country.

Isn’t the City College the flagship CUNY? It used to be great.
