I got this on Feb. 24 and failed to look at it till now.

Is getting this a pretty sure sign that I'll be admitted to Berkeley and UCLA? With a 3.97 GPA?

Berkeley has a whole other Regents Scholarship of its own. Every campus does. As for UCLA, I would think this is a sign of our acceptance. Only the top 300-350 out of around 15,000 who applied to UCLA get selected for this scholarship. i just don't see how an invitation of a prestigious scholarship could connect to being turned away at admissions. I think this is a hint that we've been accepted. Nothing is definite until the acceptance letters are out though.

Ok this was discussed last year. You CAN be rejected with the invitation. The two places that do those two things are not related.

However, it is HIGHLY unlikely that it will happen that you are invited and then rejected.

and BTW, you are invited to APPLY for regents, you are not offered the scholarship right away.

yes exactly. in the past people have been rejected even when offered a chance to apply for the scholarship but that is very rare.

the process is different for each school; for berkeley, they ask you to come for an interview, whereas UCLA asks you to write a couple essays. UCLA selects the top 1.5% of applicants to do this application and then at most 100 in the world are selected for the scholarship itself. (100 out of 55,000 is pretty damn prestigious).

nevertheless, it does mean you'll get in.

Last year, I got invited to compete for the UCLA Regent's scholarship; however, I was rejected in the end. I called the admission and they said that there is no relation btw the invitation and admission. Regent's invitation is solely based on your gpa, but admission offer is definitely based on the holistic review.

What was your major/GPA Calilover???

Also, did you write a decent essay? Did you have all of your prereqs done by the Spring semester that you intended to transfer thereafter?

Were you in the TAP/TAG/Honors program at your community college?

Last but not least, were you IGETC certified?

300-350 transfer students are invited to compete for the Regents scholarship each year and have, historically, maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA at their prior colleges.

Well, my major was Biz Econ with a 3.9x gpa.
Some of my prereqs and GE classes were in progress at that time but they would all be done by Spring 2008.
I don't know if my essays were solid or not but I let one of my friends who worked as an editor help me proofread them.
I did not join the TAP/Honors program at all, but I don't think it really mattered.

^^what do you think was the reason for your rejection? the only people i know that got invited for regents and rejected were people that didn't finish the prereqs for impacted majors like mass comm or econ.

I know there must be a reason that they said no to me.
I don't care about it anymore. Being rejected from UCLA doesn't mean the end of the world. At least I got accepted by other schools.
