Curious abt MPH Program

hi i am a graduate from Nepal. i hold a MBBS degree from manipal university. i wish to get enrolled to the best university in united states for Masters in Public Health program. Can you enlighten me about the procedure and the scholarships available for foreign students.

Some of the top universities for an MPH in the U.S. are Johns Hopkins, UNC-Chapel Hill, Harvard, Michigan, Columbia, Emory, UCLA, UC-Berkeley, Minnesota, and University of Washington (they are the top 10 in roughly that order). Johns Hopkins is usually ranked #1, but the rankings are somewhat subjective. Any one of them is a good choice for an MPH.

Public health has a centralized application system called SOPHAS that most schools of public health use. You fill out your information once and pay to send it to multiple schools. You have the opportunity to send out a statement personalized to each school on the list.

Deadlines range from mid-December to mid-March, with most falling in January and February. Generally schools require transcripts from all college and postgraduate schools attended; GRE scores; a personal statement from the applicant about why you want an MPH and why from that particular school; and three letters of recommendation from professors. Supervisors from public health related jobs may also be appropriate. Many MPH programs require a few years of work experience in the field before admittance.

Scholarships are few and far in between. Most students finance the majority of their MPH with student loans. Some universities do have scholarship funds that they award that international students are eligible for, but not necessarily specifically designated for international students.

The info that you gave was useful. I have been googling a lot about scholarships program but I am nt sure if they are reliable hence I don’t know which site to trust. How much does MPH program cost? Do these mentioned colleges have job placements?

Job placement? If you attend a school in the US on a student visa, your ability to look for employment in the US is very limited. There is no guarantee you will be able to stay here and work. Nor will you be eligible for federal student loans. You will be expected to demonstrate an ability to pay for your education before any visa is issued.
