Curious as to when the University of Minnesota Twin Cities sends out its admissions decisions

Hi everyone! I am a high school senior and I applied for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in the last week of November (because the application deadline was December 15th.) I haven't heard anything back from the school-- does anyone know when I might receive a decision based on when I applied? I filled out a no-essay online application, and I sent my ACT scores and my transcript to the school too. Am I missing anything?

It says right on their web site to contact them if you have questions (with a link to do so). This sounds like a good opportunity to do that.

Have you gotten the snail mail letter saying they received your app? We did about a month later and in that letter it talks about being able to apply to other universities in their system and if you look closely it shows your student ID. Go to the website and use that ID and your own info to choose a password. Then you’re in the site and it’ll show you your application status. My S applied a few weeks before you did and it says he should get a decision by mid February.

If you check the actual college board you’ll see people complaining about them asking people to fill out these gopher apps and not getting a decision for months.

I applied at the beginning of October and got my decision about three weeks later. Granted, there were probably just a small number of apps in compared to right now. I have plenty of friends that are still waiting to hear back as well. Your status as applied or denied will go up on the portal about four days before you receive your letter.

I’d use the application tracker on their admissions site. That’s how I learned that I was accepted about a week before it came in the mail. Granted I applied early action

Then I’ll take the opportunity and contact them, thank you for responding! :)

And I’m afraid I haven’t received any snail mail yet.

That’s how my son was able to get his student ID number. Need that to sign into their site to check your status. But I wouldn’t worry til mid February.

They’ll give you the ID that you need to get into the tracker on the phone if you call them.

I meant to answer back thought I did actually. I found a number on the snail mail letter they sent my S saying that he can also apply to other schools in the state system. He took that number, went to the website and I think put in his birthdate and other identifying info, and it spit out his username. After signing in it said expect s decision by mid February.

Everyone who applied by the priority deadlines is supposed to hear back by the end of February. I, and many people, assumed the earlier you apply, the earlier you will hear back. This was true for many of those who had superb stats. I applied in mid-September with the golsen gopher application and still yet to hear from them. Really disappointing. I really would like to attend this school but their admissions process seems so inconsistent, and why should I bother attending a school who isnt willing to show me any interest now that I have applied when many other schools have offered me far more.

Good luck to you

It’s the wrong assumption. My assumption is the clear cut decisions are made first and others will have to wait until close to the stated deadline.

@asthrera we jumped to the same conclusion as you. Given all the early acceptances posted on this site (a VERY small and probably non-representative sample of decisions, btw), it’s easy to do so.

Fortunately you are able to gauge your chances vis a vis the admissions profile that UMTC puts out for each college. If you meet the stats you are pretty much assured of getting in at some point. If for some reason there is an outcome you didn’t expect you can always appeal. The waiting is hard - D is still waiting on two schools (including her #1) and won’t know where she’s going before mid-March at the very earliest. It’s pretty typical to endure a six month or so process of uncertainty when one is applying to competitive programs.

Now I’ll get off my soapbox and get back to filling out financial aid forms. FAFSA’s out tomorrow, people!! Happy New Year!!!

Thank you all for such great replies! I actually called and was given my ID, and since then I have received and an admissions decision!
