Thanks in advance for replying!

That said - who's excited for September 5th? I can't wait!

i’d say you are in only thing i don’t see is any varsity sports. I see the JV but no offense, thats all it is… jv. Although you do go to Pioneer and their sports are intense (i played against them when i was in HS) if i where an admin official i’d look for someone more rounded. but that’s just my 2 cents worth.

^Sports don’t matter. If you’re on a team, it’s good. If not, do something else. But I don’t know if she’ll get in. She didn’t get all 5s, she didn’t get all 800s- on 1 SAT 2 and 1CR section. It’s a huge reach. Virtually no chance.

This is interesting. I’m wondering why people tell me that I can consider UM a safety when I see so many people with similar or better qualifications get told in their chance threads that UM should never be considered a safety. My guess is that most of them are OOS-ers? any thoughts?

Yea you are right. Out of state prospective students have it harder than in state students do. You have a very good chance, whether you are in state or out of state. 4.0 GPA and 2340 test scores in addition to flawless SAT II(except lit) and good extracurriculars. But If you were out of state it would probably be a match rather than a safety, and for honors it could potentially be a slight reach. Michigan doesn’t really consider essays, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be good.

Engineering probably puts the most emphasis on students mathematical ability than anything.

Does UMich really not consider essays? I’ve heard several times that they find them important, but I suppose my sources weren’t exactly the most accurate (word-of-mouth).

Stupid question: Does Engineering have its own honors program?

Nope. There is just an honors program for LSA. Even though there is no honors program. Engineering at U-M is as good as it gets.

Well they say Essays are important. Usually they are important for those who don’t have a really strong application(GPA/Test scores). From what I’ve heard from actual faculty at U-M, they aren’t really weighted to heavily, unless they are “unique” and “special”(Explain extenuating circumstances or other things). However don’t slack on them. Treat them as if they were important.

@cdz: Well, I was just curious in general because I saw so many people in the “What are my Chances?” board with similar or even better stats/ECs be told that they UM was a high match/reach for them, and that was surprising to me, so I decided to check my own.

besides, it’s never a good idea to take something as unpredictable as college admissions for granted, right?

Oh and you go to Pioneer. I didn’t even notice that. You should know Michigan’s standards by now and how it always seems like half the class goes to UM. Be honest, you know you’ll get in. It shouldn’t take some internet posters to make you feel better. Unless they mess up your app (known to happen by someone I know, real smart, got screwed) you’re in.

You are aware that about 15% of our graduating class at Pioneer gets into U of M right? That means this year it will be 100+. I’m sure there’s only 10-20 people who take the rigorous classes that you take who have 4.0’s. The only way they will reject you is because you are overly-qualified and they know you wouldn’t attend U of M if you get into an Ivy/etc. By the way, its weird because I probably know you =P

GPA: Michigan 4.0
SAT I: 2340
SAT II: Math II - 800; Chemistry - 800; Literature - 790

Seems to me that you must have misread them saying that it was a reach for Ivy League and equivalents. Because these scores are good almost any school, even HYPSM. Though UM Engineering and Ross does have higher standards than LSA.

@Heplayer92 - yeah I probably know you somehow, since the odds of me not knowing someone who cares enough about college to read/post on CC are very low, assuming you’re also a rising senior (I’m guessing so from the 92)

Well either way, thanks for the input everyone. I guess the strange conundrum of UM being a reach for people with higher stats than me is probably a function of being OOS.

Well the people that have been chanced recently don’t have better stats than you. I haven’t seen a 2340 or 800 on the SATII’s on this thread in a while, but yea most of them that our out of state or reaches are OOS and internationals.
