i also play soccer, would it be to much to try and be in a band as well as play soccer while maintaing good grades?

Thanks

The music scene at Bard is very prominent, so I would imagine that you would have almost no trouble finding a place to practice the drums.

And I can’t answer your second question because I have no idea.

I have a feeling their soccer team (if they even have one) is not very time consuming. Probably like intramural.

My son does a lot of music at Bard and was on the club baseball team for one semester - after that, the conflicts were too great and he had to drop baseball. This was a club sport, and not an NCAA Div III sport, such as soccer. The question is what kind of music, and what level of commitment - college jazz ensembles, world music, classical percussion, or student group rock bands? The conservatory is starting an amazing percussion program in the fall - I imagine there will be top percussionists applying from all over the world. (At least, I would if I played…)

There are practice rooms in the basement of Robbins, an upperclassmen dorm. You will be able to access it if you choose to practice there. Security will give you a key. There are also practice rooms (as well as recording rooms) in Blum Hall, the music building. The music scene is huge, even if you’re not a major. Many of my friends are in at least one band on campus. There are also multiple venues on campus, as well as off-campus houses that want bands to play at parties.

It will probably be difficult if you’re planning on playing varsity (yes, we DO have a soccer team! The girl’s team is supposed to be really good. I don’t know about the boy’s team). Intramural will make it much easier for you to manage, however intramural sports are only for a month-2 months at a time. Many people enjoy soccer though and I’ve seen many pick-up games on campus.

I know people on the soccer team here who have a lot of free time. I wouldn’t worry about that.
