Curious on decision

Everyone: Get off the lying thing. Stop living in a vaccum of black and white. Lehigh can reserve seats for edowment/legacy full pay students and still be need blind. The OP wondered why she didn’t get in and I offered her a possible explanation. It’s as simple as that.

To Lehigh2017- Are you a student? If so I won’t bother arguing with you.

"… the missing link between acceptance and rejection is [aid] money" says you don’t believe Lehigh is need blind. That part is simple!

Yes sosomenza, I am a student. I guess that makes me inferior somehow. Anyway, no worries; I’m always available to argue if you ever want.

No one can tell the OP why their child wasn’t admitted. Simply put, we do not know and are all speculating. Calling a student poster offering his or her opinion a liar is pretty harsh. Unfortunately admissions decisions are sometimes quite inexplicable and sometimes you just need to accept that you win some and you loose some and move on.

Best of luck to the OP and her child and I am quite sure she will do extremely well wherever she goes!

“Calling a student poster offering his or her opinion a liar is pretty harsh.”

That didn’t happen. That student suggested that Lehigh isn’t need blind when Lehigh says it is.

Wma630. My son was rejected from his dream school in 2010. I thought he would never get over it. Now I see he is where he should have been all along. Lehigh is just the right size and has just the right feel for him. I know your daughter will find that as well!

I contacted Lehigh with a request to re-review my application because they had initially gotten an incorrect midyear report, saying I failed calculus, when I had gotten a B+. They wouldn’t. Why can your daughter be re-reviewed, but not me?

It also said in the article of the Philadelphia Inquirer that a student was rejected for failing calculus on a midyear report. Maybe it’s just a weird coincidence. Or maybe it was me. I’ll never know.

Lehigh was my dream school. Ugh. The rejection still really stings…

They seriously won’t reevaluate your application? That’s horrible… And yes, you’re right - it isn’t fair for an application to be reevaluated because they think they deserve to be accepted when you aren’t given the same opportunity based on an error that wasnt even your fault.

I’d say your next step is to talk to your guidance counselor. He should be knocking down doors for you to fix his error.

I talked to multiple people at Lehigh and they said they got my corrected midyear report, reviewed it, and made their decision off of that.

I know all rejections are final…it says so in my rejection letter…but I still think it’s unfair to deny a student the right to be re-evaluated based off of that, and then let another one be re-evaluated simply because the parent thinks their child should have been accepted. My parents think I should have been accepted too, so why shouldn’t I be re-evaluated? I’m not trying to cause any fights, but in all honesty it does seem rather unfair to me.

If I was accepted to Lehigh, I’d be there in a heartbeat.

I haven’t gotten to talk to my guidance counselor yet…I’ve talked to admissions myself, and a very close teacher has called. The dean refused to meet with me to discuss the committee’s decision…I’m running out of options.

Well I’m really sorry for you. I don’t think it was handled correctly. Other than talking to your guidance counselor, I don’t think there are many option other than transfer to Lehigh for the Spring semester or wait until the fall semester and do the same.

You can take the advice of virtually everyone who went through what you’re going through and just “move on,” fall in love with enough school, and you’ll be happy there. Or, if you are so set on Lehigh like you seem to be, don’t give up. Transfer students have a 33% acceptance rate into Lehigh ([Lehigh University: Undergraduate Admissions: Transfer Students](College Transfer & Credit Transfer Information | Lehigh University)) and also are just as eligible for financial aid. Maybe that’s the best route?

You could ask Lehigh if it matters when a rejection is based on a clerical error. If they say it doesn’t matter, there’s nothing to do.

But if they reviewed the corrected error (is that not a re-evaluation?) and still rejected, there’s nothing to do.

Yes we thought our daughters application should be reviewed, not because we asked, but because she had better grades, higher SAT scores and higher GPA then other kids accepted, plus she’s valedictorian of her class. She had plenty of contacts, plenty of activities, and had 2 Uncles that attended. They said they would let us know by last Friday. Still haven’t heard a peep and at this point don’t really care. We’re still hoping Lafayette comes up with more money (they’re working on it) but if not, she’ll go to Rowan on almost a full ride.

Congratulations to your daughter and best of luck with Lafayette.
