Current Bruins Taking Questions! (Housing, Campus Life, Majors, etc.)

also definitely don’t check the smoker box unless you smoke a lot… I know people who’s room was stuffed with the smell of smoke to the point they can’t sleep in the room…

hey how hard is taking a major with a minor…for example an engineering major with like a theater minor???

well, which major? in any case, you’re going to be stressed for units with engineering and you will have enough difficulties going through with it as your major . the minor for theatre doesn’t seem too bad though !

[Theater Minor](<a href=“Study Area - New Student & Transition Programs”>Study Area - New Student & Transition Programs)

doesn’t look too bad, but it’s 8 classes.
with an engineering major, considering they get like 1 elective per year (only a slight exaggeration), that doesn’t add up.
but, to figure it out for yourself, go here [HSSEAS OASA | Curricular Requirements and Department Information](http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/current/deptinfo.html)
look up your major, find its suggested 4-year plan, and try to fit the minor into it ;)

Does anyone know if I can back out if from fsp? I know i can’t make it to the session and i’m already signed up for it? I think I have until before july to back out with and not be charged the 100 dollars but im not sure

Engineering major and theater minor is doable. Average person would take 5 years, which is very much doable. You have the luxury of falling behind by 2-3 courses in this case. The minor should take only about 2 quarters.

I’ve heard 2 people doing it in my classes.

thnx alot for ur help guys…really appreciate it :)

I doubt it. I fashion that you’re really a sycophantic, pedantic, future bruin with the soul as dark as mine but without the withering colds of a Nordic Slumber seeping through its varicose veins.

I have some questions about the housing app here which have me confused. (Im referring to the following page: <a href=“ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs”>ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs) Please reply ASAP, thanks.

Keep in mind my preference is an on campus triple room, how should I answer the questions?

I apologize if these questions have already been answered but I’d rather just ask than sift through all these pages (which I probably will soon enough).

you don’t have to sift. just use search.

search

search

search

my advice is to put what you are. do NOT fill out your app based on who you want/don’t want as a roommate. more often than not, it backfires. if everyone was honest on their apps, then the apps could do their job correctly!

“1. What is the difference between “Facility/Room Type,” and “Roommate.” I mean I’m guessing roommate is when you have a specific person in mind but there really should be some more information on this.”

I’m actually not sure why you’re asking this question since, to me, they both seem self-explanatory and sorta unrelated to one another. Facility/Room type means type of building and occupancy in the room (i.e. plaza triple.) Roommate means - well, roommate. Someone you room with.

“2. When choosing ‘Facility Type Preference,’ what is meant by Residence Hall/Plaza/Suite? Do triple rooms come in these 3 varieties? How did you guys fill out this portion of the app?”

Residence Hall: communal restrooms – single, double, and triple occupancy
Plazas: private bath (btwn one room or 2-3 people) or shared baths (btwn two rooms 4-6) – double and triple occupancy
Suites: ten 1 person rooms with two restrooms (male/female) – though this is just one type of suite. and its highly unlikely any first years will be assigned suites due to high demand from returners.

“3. in ‘Room Type Preference,’ whats the difference between “three occupants,” and “shared bath,” is it only that in simple “three occupants” you have three different baths?”

No. So this is for PLAZAs: three occupants means three roommates. Shared bath means two rooms share one bathroom. So, if its a shared triple - it’s SIX people sharing ONE bathroom. Private bath means one room shares one bathroom. So, if its a private triple - it’s THREE people sharing ONE bathroom.

“4. Does it matter what sleeping time I put because I normally sleep quite late but wouldn’t want to end up with a vampire either …”

Put down the truth. You don’t want to put down that you sleep early when you don’t because you might end up with a roommate that sleeps early and you guys might have problems…

“Keep in mind my preference is an on campus triple room, how should I answer the questions?”

You should definitely answer the questions honestly. Like liyana said, if you don’t, it could seriously backfire on you! Since you want a triple sign up for a triple room. Then all you have to decide between is if you want hall or plaza. Hall is typically more social. Plaza more quiet. Both have positives and negatives – but you’ll have to look in the housing thread for those…

thanks a lot for all of your guys’ help!

i have another question. When is my financial aid package going to be finalized? I’m getting really stressed out about loans and everything, so I’m eager to start figuring all that out… I guess I got around a $4000 scholarship recognition award. Everyone got that right? Everything so far is an “estimate” so I’m just wondering when I’ll know the actual costs of everything.

what’s the chem department like?

old and smelly

no really, young hall (where the chem department resides) is old and smells old.

as for professors…its a hit and miss. some i think can teach really well and some are just all over the place. i think i disliked more of the faculty than i liked. of course, that could be attributed to my overall hatred of chem…

Personally, I don’t think Young Hall smells or is old. I really like it there. It’s like a 2nd home for me.

^Well, that’s because you haven’t been up North! (or for a long enough period)

the basement of schoenberg is old and smelly..and pretty stuffy too

Only because you’re in it.

pft…don’t hate me because i’m beautiful

you want old and smelly?
try the band uniform room. before we got the new uniforms.
now THAT was gross…
