You will be fine. Just put some energy into finding people to socialize with.

In the dorms? No. You will at least have to share one with your roommate. It's not that bad, trust me.

No. Unless in the new dorms they implemented private bedrooms, you will have to share a room with someone. Trust me, it's easy to get used to.

Just keep an open mind, study, and exercise! I found that exercising helped me study because I felt more energetic.

Do we get free admittance to a gym? Is it weights only or do they have cardio machines (treadmill, etc)?

2- I meant is it a public bath. Not like two people use the same bathroom but only one can go in at a time.

One more- What type of food is usually available. Any thai or italian? (I just love those!)

An update about the Bus Econ/Comm issue:

Apparently a girl I'm on AdTeam with is a Comm major who is working towards Bus Econ also. However, she was admitted to Comm at the end of her freshman year, which is virtually unheard of. This, I assume, allows her more time to work towards being accepted into Bus Econ.

So yeah. Possible, but unlikely.

Regarding the Bus/Comm issue:

See the thing is, I've been taking classes at my local community college since Junior year in High School. So I've stacked up on a lot of credits already. I've been aiming for UCLA since then and took specifically the classes required to get into these two majors. By the time I start at UCLA this fall, I'll probably only have a couple of more classes to take until all the pre-reqs are cleared. Will this help me a lot on getting into these two majors?

I really want to double major in Bizecon and Comm, so I really hope this works out. Thanks for reading.

Assuming all your credits transfer to the right classes (and that's a big assumption), there's a limit to how much you can transfer from CC.

if you clear both hurdles, heck- you might graduate before I do

I am in the same situation as PXalpine. I am taking 5 community college classes this semester. With AP Calculus, I will be able to clear liek 1/2 or 1/3 of the prereqs for Bizecon. Will I be able to use those classes to fulfill the prereqs requirement. If so, does the GPA from the community college transfer into the UCLA GPA for those classes?

No, CC GPAs do not transfer. Ever. Never ever ever. The units transfer and fulfill reqs, but the GPA never, under any circumstances (magical or otherwise) transfers.

It sucks for some of us, it rocks for others.

I imagine that they're taking into account to some extent for admissions to various graduate and professional programs. Is that not so, UCLAri?

It says on the UCLA website that the maximum credit from CC allowed to transfer is 105 quarter units, which is more than what I need.

dyip10, I had those questions too. Someone answered and said that we are indeed allowed to use those classes to fulfill the prereqs, but the GPA from CC will not count as our UCLA GPA.

DRab,

In the case of graduate admissions, your GPA is tabulated differently. For example (woo! Horn tootin' time!) I had a 3.74 UC GPA. So, for UCLA honors and scholarships, I used that GPA. However, I had like 90 units with a 4.0 at my CC. So, for my grad school apps, I got to put over 3.8 on my overall undergraduate GPA.

However, for your UC GPA, only classes taken at the UC (and maybe other unis?) will count. Trust me, I tried to get my CC GPA added in so I could get magna or summa cum laude. Didn't work. Bastards!

Someone sexy, smart, and very much a graduate student now that he accepted an offer answered and said that we are indeed allowed to use those classes to fulfill the prereqs, but the GPA from CC will not count as our UCLA GPA.

FIXEDZORZ!!! :)

Hahaha UCLAri :)

Where are you going to go for grad school?

UCSD IR/PS.

Very excited, as you can see.

You have decided?!?!

I have, good sir. I realized that since Harvard and Columbia were dingers, I might as well. SAIS wasn't gonna offer much in the way of aid, and LSE was too expensive too.

Not so bad for me to have choose a top program anyway, I say.

Eh, not so bad. Hopefully UCSD can supply you with more snot-nosed students to teach! ;) Hopefully they have good Japanese food near campus.

Actually, there are some opportunities as a student at IR/PS to teach, mostly languages (oh boy, more language teaching.)

I could probably go without Japanese food for at least a few months and not feel too bad about it.

Congratulations UCLAri.
I sure hope I can get into UCSD for M.S. Computer Science...

Communications is a very tough major to get into (admissions wise)??

Yes, it is.
